Looking for some musical inspiration. Let's have some relatively unknown songs (unless, of course, you're a fan) by well known artists, e.g album tracks, B-sides or just songs which just weren't hits and don't get played much on the radio.

A few of my favourites at the moment:

INXS: The Stairs

Elbow: Kindling

Tears for Fears: Bad Man's Song

I've got 2, which, although are not 'lesser' songs, are alternatives versions to the more well known versions, which IMHO are much better!!!!

Thin Lizzy: Don't Believe A Word (original arrangement): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSIVXN3ptMo

Def Leppard: Miss You In A Heartbeat (piano version): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZV7mkmADtk

I swear to god, "Life / Live" is a copper-bottomed classic album and contains - for me - one of the best guitar solos ever committed to vinyl (Sykes' solo #1 on Still In Love With You)

Ash - No Place to Hide

Written in the aftermath of 9/11, so closest to the release of the Meltdown album (2004). Except it never got an album release, appearing only on the compilation album Intergalactic Sonic 7s (2002). And if you were a big fan of the band then why would you buy a compilation made up of songs you already had on CD?

Ultravox - Herr X

Mr X, from the album Vienna, except performed in German by Warren Cann rather than Midge Ure. It didn't make it onto the album in 1980, being used as a B-Side for the single version of Passionate Reply. While it's the same song except in German I like it more than the English version, it ties in better with the album title, and if you've never heard it before it puts a unique spin on something familiar.

The Prophet's Song is my favourite Queen song by a long way, but as it's not on any of the Greatest Hits, lots of people have never heard it.

And it's not exactly typical of their style, it's a bit heavier, almost a Sabbath sort of sound.

Oddly enough when I looked at the title I thought of Ultravox but the song Lament. It was my favourite track of theirs but not as well known or talked about.

Good call, from the "A Night At The Opera" album - 1st LP I owned! Had it a couple of times on vinyl, once on cassette and now the 2011 CD remaster.. Still love it smile

You could make a very long list of great queen songs that were never singles .

Queen's first single - Keep Yourself Alive.

Seven Seas of Rhye was their second single and the first to chart but Keep Yourself Alive was the first single. It's on their first album.

Agree with all the above. I personally don't understand why most folks dismiss the album. I love it thumbup
