there used to be a genre of country music that was dedicated to the american trucker.

Quite a few good songs came about through that genre and of course we got at least one film... Convoy.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convoy_(song)

but the history of trucking songs covered quite a period of time, yes the heyday was the 70's but there was the likes of jerry reed, who was of course the snowman in the smokie and the bandit films. he was a country singer in his own right and did a fre trucking songs... Concrete sailor was one that did well, sounds good even today.

We had Red sovine with his teddy bear, phantom 309, giddyup go, and payload daddy..

You beat me to it - it was the first one I thought of!

I guess Convoy by C W McColl fits the Bill although I prefer this version!

The Allman Brothers had a Butch Trucks (drummer).
And in their final lineup two Trucks! Butch being joined by slide-spanking nephew Derek.

Derek is also (with wife Susan) the Tedeschi Trucks band.

Tony Justice - Last of the cowboys.

Skip to 1 Min 30 Secs to avoid the non-music intro. Great video as well.

Also, if you are happy to accept 'Irish country' as part of the country music genre, then you can have this as well:

My Dad was a truck driver late 70s - 80s. He had stacks of these LPs. Played them all the time. Only one i can remember off the top od my head was Red Sovine.
Other than that it was country - Faron Young, Charley Pride ( played non stop - i knew every word of every song lol) etc
