Did you see that Paul put a grand behind the bar of each of 60 pubs across the country last week to celebrate his 60th birthday?

What a top fella!

He and Jacqui are headlining the Acoustic Stage on the Friday night at Glastonbury this year. Sorry Billie Eilish, but I'll be watching them instead.

Alas I don't think they ever show the Acoustic on any BBC coverage (I don't think, I could be wrong) which is a shame.
I did indeed, such a Paul thing to do. 3 pubs in Hull, my nearest city and where Paul / Housemartins rose to fame where involved, the grafton, the whalebone and the old blue bell. I think I've seen him around 20 times now.

Have to say, My Chemical Romance were outstanding in Milton Keynes tonight. Got to our seats to see a large speaker stack obscuring our view which wasn’t mentioned when booking. A woman came along, explained it hadn’t been planned and would we like standing tickets instead…
I have a few issues with my bones so never normally book standing but decided what the hell. Atmosphere down there was so much better than seated and although I will absolutely regret it tomorrow it was quite brilliant.
I used to take my kids to see MCR a lot so returning with them both now as adults was quite a special night for us all I think.

Used some Virgin air miles to get tickets to see Whitesnake, Foreigner and Europe at the AO Arena next Wednesday.

Then last week I got Virgin Hospitality passes in the post - happy days!
I just got home from my trip up North for this gig - it was awesome!

Keep hearing "In The Still Of The Night" at random moments. laugh

Went to see Public Service Broadcasting at the Bath Festival last night, they were brilliant. Wouldn't normally get into stuff like that but saw them supporting the Manics at Wembley Arena in December and loved them enough to buy tickets to see them on their own, so to speak.

Supported by Ani Glass, a female solo that sings in Welsh and is the sister of Manics support act Gwenno (she was really good, "Mirores" is the catchiest song I've heard this year!). PSB produced an hour and 45 minutes of superb work from all four of their albums including a tribute to Vangelis who passed away this week. The encore was "People Let's Dance, Gagarin and Everest". Can't explain it but found myself getting emotional during some of the visuals thinking back to how life was (the space race, the miners strike, the poor conditions people used to work in etc).

Would highly recommend seeing them and I'll be off on their October tour where I'm seeing them at Oxford. Next on the list is the gig of my two favourite bands, The Killers and The Manics this Thursday at Ashton Gate, Bristol.

I've seen Public Service Broadcasting a couple of times now (once on the Race For Space tour and also during the one for Every Valley) and echo your thoughts - they really are exceptional.

I'm off to see the Killers too, though not with the Manics supporting unfortunately.

What's the O2 like for driving away from in the post gig bedlam of large venues?

Should be at work early tomorrow so thinking of cabbing it home after PSB tonight instead of the mayhem of rail - it can take half an hour just to get to the tube - but wonder if I'll just be trading one jam up for another..

Saw Duran Duran at the Leicester O2 last night. Just 1400 people, most excellent.

I'm too late to reply but I would have said "it's fine", although these days I tend to get the tube or the boat to The O2 - the latter is great in summer.

I'm seeing Pet Shop Boys in Brum on Saturday, can't wait. I've been a fan since '85, got most of their albums, but never managed to catch them live, this two year postponed tour looks excellent from what I have seen on social media.

You're in for a treat they were phenomenal, like yourself theyre a band I've always loved but never caught before the opera House and Hyde park gigs the other year, but last nights gig felt much more special.

Heads up the o2 have some sort of restriction on Uber so you'll be walking trying to find a spot several streets away rather than right outside - probably not an issue if you're forewarned...

And oh, hands up anyone who's stuck with O2 for about 20 years as much as anything so he retains "priority" gig pre sales - but only found out yesterday it also enables one gets to sassily breeze past the big ugly security queue and wait in a private bar area with couches? D'oh!

Got a literally last minute ticket to see Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets in Portsmouth a couple of nights ago, absolutely brilliant gig and now regretting not going to see them on an earlier tour.

I'd argue they were as good as Pink Floyd were in 1994 at Earls Court when I saw them, the pre-Dark Side material really deserves the wider audience it's now getting. Echoes was just awesome live.

Anyway back to my normal stuff soon...Bauhaus and Kraftwerk up next.
Didn't realise he had his own band and played a PF set. I've just booked tickets for Australian Pink Floyd ad Reading Hexagon who are on a UK tour later this year.

My only other gig planned this year is to see Primal Scream at Ally Pally do Screamadelica for I think the 4th time. No Denise Johnson this time though frown

Post Modern Jukebox at the Palladium last week (third time I've seen them and get better every time).

Next up is 2 days at the Paleo festival in Switzerland in July - Rag N Bone Man and Sting one night, random assortment of European bands the next.

Nothing after that until late November when it's Melody Gardot at the London Jazz Festival.

Last thing booked for this year is in December - Nightmare Before Christmas with a live orchestra, Danny Elfman and possibly members of the cast. Been once before and it was an amazing performance.

Simply Red at Blenheim Palace in a couple of weeks.
Hopefully will be a nice evening, pretty local to me.

One I suspect very few of you will know, but a band I adored back in the day - The Electric Boys. Looking forward to it, tiny local venue. 33 years I've waited for this one biggrin

I should have said it was postponed on.

However, it's now been cancelled and the money will be returned to my card.

The Smile at The Roundhouse, London on Monday night. Although a relatively new band two of the members are Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead.

Mate of mine got free tickets for Alice Cooper / The Cult at Manc last night so we went along (more for the Cult).

Thought I an Astbury's voice was excellent but overall it felt and looked like they plodded through.
Never been a fan of Alice Cooper. Bubblegum Rock IMO. Didn't disappoint, we left after song 2.

IMO venue was too big for them. 3rd tier was curtained off and no screens so you ended up watching ants from a distance.
