Hi Everyone,

I've recently come into a bit of luck after being offered a contract to wash some luxury cars owned by a London casino however, i'm facing a bit of an issue when it comes to getting insurance for the ability to move said cars from their underground carpark up to the surface (Sub 2 minute drive in a quiet side road of london). The main 2 issues that are making this hard for me are; i'm 24 years old, and one of the cars is a rolls royce phantom which is valued at £500,000. As soon as I mention this to any insurer (i've called many) they immediately tell me its not possible. The other cars are just range rovers and i'd be acting as a business on this giving them a basic clean once a day 3 days a week. 1 single company has been able to offer me a quote which seems to good to be true at £1,900, this would insure my van primarily and give me the ability to drive any vehicle up to any worth.

My question is; Do you know any specialist insurance companies that may give me a fighting chance with this? OR do you know if a policy that covers your van primarlily and the ability drive 'anything' would suffice in this situation? I've seen the phrase 'car jockey' floating around however after getting some quotes on this type of insurance it seems most companies only insure up to £50k, and for this it needs to be around £100k - £500k.

Will be extremely grateful for any feedback on this however if you're simply going to respond with a 'not possible' please refrain, unless stating why with a bit of detail! smile

Possibly a silly question & the size of your van stopping you from taking it into the car park might be the answer but is there any reason why you can't do them in situ?

Unfortunately the casino won’t let me wash them underground due to there being nowhere for the water to drain. I’d be driving just a regular sized transit van most likely or smaller.

Would they be willing to move the car for you?

I am a bit out of touch but check if the policy offers a maximum indemnification of £100k or will only cover vehicles worth up to £100k

Other than that if the casino have cover for valet parking movements check if you are covered on that.

Unfortunately not as this would of been much simpler if that was the case! The work would be done during the hours the casino is closed 7am - 11am

I’ll definitely have a check on this thank you mate. As for the casino covering my insurance it’s unfortunately not possible as apparently by the time they’ve forked out to cover me they may as well hire someone that’s already got the cover in place. This has been offered to me based on a family friend which is why they’re giving it to me.

OP, have a good read through the terms and conditions of that 1900 policy that will cover you driving any other car. it may be sufficient for your needs, certainly confirm that any other car you drive is covered fully comp, as a lot of policies will only be 3rd party cover for driving other cars and i'm assuming you want to be covered for any damage you might cause to a 500k Rolls.

You might need to speak to a specialist insurance co, you might be able to get a policy that covers you for only the very short dries you will be doing, i.e. yo are insured when moving the car from A to B only.

Good luck, hope you get it sorted out so you can get working.
