I bought a ticket to see Dr Feelgood at the end of the week at our local music festival. I know there are no original members, but I never saw them when there were so it's no change for me.

I saw The Go! Team at Lafayette (London, Kings Cross) and they were as brilliant as ever. Absolutely joyous performance.

They've not performed live for 5 years in part due to singer Ninja having two children. She was as energetic as ever and even introduced them on stage at the end.

I'm seeing them in October with Nine Below Zero in Liverpool.

NYC's H2O at The Underworld, 1st Aug - will continue my run of having seen every London show they've ever played. £29 inc fees, four bands on the bill.

First time have said no to a gig today.

£170 for trains, £150 for a hotel, £140 for tickets. £460 outlay before setting foot in the gig. Just too much for couple hour’s entertainment.

Vended in June in Southampton
Electric Callboy in October, in Portsmouth

Toying the the Hu in a few weeks also in Southampton.

£20-30 a ticket and local. Can't justify these bigger gigs any longer. Too much money.

Yes the economics are getting pretty challenging now. If we are travelling, then we need to make a weekend or more of it to help it make sense. then it's worth a trip to Europe, typically cheaper tickets, accomodations and sustenance, and a visit to somewhere different.

Flights to Dublin were cheaper than a train to London. Problem is Dublin prices are out of control for one night in a reasonable hotel or Air BnB. The days of bargain city breaks are long gone ir would seem.

I did Milan, 2 nights, flights and a ticket to see Inter Milan for £140 5 years ago! Will never be like that again!

No Dick Black jokes that I can recall unfortunately. JG was funny in a self-deprecating kind of way all through the show. Norman was a bit like you describe - when introducing his songs, he could never remember which Teenage Fanclub album they were from, though Bernard did and helped him out.

Great gig though. My wife, who knew nothing of JG’s work and little of BB’s but absolutely loved it.
James Grant said something like "That reminds me of my favourite album title. There's an accordionist called Dick Black. He released a compilation album called 'A taste of Dick' ".

Very nearly bought tickets to see them at the Apex as it's local to me, but in the end it clashed with something else.

By coincidence I bought that very album just for it's silly title and posted it to my Facebook page a few years ago.....

It was a good gig. Support band were local and did some R-n-b stuff, didn't recognise any of it but the faster tracks were good, then they went very slow and a bit guitar-hero and not as good. Feelgood did the songs I recognised and a lot more, and a couple of covers. Not a great venue, there's a bit of open space near the stage but the rest of it is tables and chairs, a mixture of canteen long tables and separate ones.

I did see Nine Below Zero, a few years back, when they were supporting The Stranglers (which is where I'd seen Feelgood before) and enjoyed them.

I'm thinking of trying to get tickets for New Order & Confidence Man at the O2, but I've only been there once and totally hated it (It was Bob Dylan, though, and he was sh!te!).

One question I have is, given the event is slated to start at 18:30, does anyone have any idea what time it may finish? I'm used to 11PM curfews at venues, which would make it nigh impossible for me to get my last train home (and I'm not springing for a London hotel on top of the ticket price!)

I don't recall the timings for Dylan, but the tube was shut for work, so it was utter chaos as I recall.

Any ideas/experiences with events at the O2?

pretty sure they have an 11pm curfew and usually try to get done prior to that.

leaving the 02 is an utter ballache with queues for the tube; i usually get the setlist for the tour and leave as the last track is playing just to avoid the worst of it.

Although i hate the 02 and only see things like the Pete Tong Ibiza classics where you can walk to the front, might do Chemical brothers for the same reason.

I saw New Order open Park Life a couple of years ago and they weren't great. He was never a great singer but didn't make my ears happy at all that night.

Thanks.

I'll have to give it some thought then.

Thanks for the information, I decided to pass in the end.

The tickets are £80 and then adding on train and parking takes it well over £100, which seems a lot to see them at a venue I don't really like and would possibly have to leave early to make a train home.

I saw NO at Brixton a few years ago (The Music Complete album tour) and thought they were really good (others there who'd seen them many times reckoned it was one of their best performances) and I have Confidence Man on my list of bands to go and see, but in the end, I decided to give it a miss.

Nothing too much really we have GnR at Hyde Park and Joe Satriani later on in the year. I need to try and get to some more little pub gigs as well.

Oooo, Satriani. Haven't seen him since about 1989, at the Hummingbird in Birmingham. Easily one of the finest gigs I've ever witnessed.

I tell you, he blows my mind. He has soooo much energy and presence for someone of his age. I don't like all of his stuff but he really is an inspiration as a musician and a person. Must have been great to see him back in the day.

I last saw him with g3 and made a video...

Nice vid, thanks for posting. Crowd looks a bit less, er, lairy (hairy?) than 1989 (or was it 90? Long time ago anyway) in Birmingham...That was a tiny venue, must have been only about 50-100 people in there. Incredible memory to have.

EDIT: found it - 1990:
