Has anyone had a decent quote for their car as of late ? Any particular company standing out from the rest ??
I’ve been on confused and Admiral seem to be the most competitive .

I've been looking around recently to get insurance lined up for when I pick my car up on the 11th.

A-Plan - wouldn't quote due to lack of prior experience driving supercars
Classicline - £1184 (Ageus), would need to fit a tracker
Elephant (via a comparison site) - £873

So took the last of these (which I know is just another name for Admiral). The nearest non-Admiral option on the comparison sites was £1800+.

Will look around again next year to see if a year's experience changes the landscape.

Admiral was £185 for 3 months as that is when an existing multicar policy ends. Works out £740/year. Less than my Range Rover Sport and only twice as much as my Mini JCW bounce

I am with Admiral. Very reasonable on the prior Ferrari and the McLaren.

Admiral quoting just over £900 for the 600lt on confused.com, just went through the agony of getting a quote direct from them and it’s gone up £100!..

I went with Classicline, cheaper than any other quote I got apart from Admiral but (a) includes track cover and (b) I was put off Admiral by the need to state every option as a mod, along with a suspicion they could be very tricky on the event of a big claim.

Classicline do require a tracker, for cars under 5 years old at least. Current price is £217 a year from Vodafone for the factory tracker.

I got a quote to add my 600LT onto my Admiral policy. Wanted £35.84 for the remaining 37 days, works out about £350 for the year. And that was with my wife and 2 sons (age 30 and 34) on there. And no mention of a tracker.

Ended up switching the policy from my GT4 with ClassicLine as I wanted the track cover (6 days/year included). Policy was originally just over £1000, cost another £700 to add the LT for the remaining 11 months. They wouldn't add my younger son, wanted £590 to add the older one. Tracker also required, so that's another couple of hundred quid.

Sorry to hear that guys. Interesting contrast with davek_964's comments in his 'Living with a 650S Spider' thread:

One additional thing to conclude this thread :

There is often a discussion about which insurance companies to use for supercars, and 'you get what you pay for' is often quoted, especially when a well known multicar insurer is mentioned that uses the name of a senior navy officer....

I can only speak about my own experience, but can say this :

I was very pleasantly surprised to find that their approved repairers includes official McLaren body shops - including the one I would have chosen to use.
In addition, for cars like this they acknowledge that the book price is likely to be low and they get bespoke valuations. I was told mine today and it is absolutely fair - and genuinely does allow me to put myself in the same position I was in before the accident.
I did always think that maybe I'd regret having the 'cheaper' insurance policy if the worst came to the worst. As it turns out, based on my experience - they will be top of the list for insuring my next car if I decide to replace the 650 with something similar.
I'm very pleasantly surprised.

Yep - my experience with them was very positive. Cheapest to insure, didn't require tracker - and when I actually needed to claim it was pretty simple and a generous payout. Enough so that they would actually have to be significantly uncompetitive at renewal for me to consider moving.

That’s good to hear Dave, the nearest quote I got was with PD ( excluding all the sub named companies of Admiral), I say nearest,, it was actually 50% more expensive plus the excess was £2000 as opposed to £600 at Admiral..

Admiral are usually the most competitive I've been using them for yrs but have never made a claim so can't comment on that. They can be slow to answer phones sometimes.

Just be careful with admiral, there is a clause on their insurance -

The Policy does not cover: Used to participate in any test, competition or organised motoring event.

It’s the organised motoring event that might be a major get out clause for them. A car meet with friends is an organized motoring event. Mind you, deciding to go to Tesco in the car tomorrow is too!!!!!

Just be careful

Don't most insurance policies have similar?

I would say that in my case, there were no questions about the circumstances of my claim. It was 100% fault claim - no other parties involved, purely my fault. My description on the claim was something like : Went round a bend, car span - must have been something on the road.

I expected further questions, but got none - except whether I'd hit anything else which would give rise to a third party claim.

As I said, payout was good - and was higher than the value I gave when I insured the car.

For me the process really was :

I crashed and submitted claim
Car taken to approved repairer - who told me a few days later it was probably a write off
Admiral spent a few weeks getting a bespoke valuation because they told me the book price was too low for "this type of car".
Admiral paid me

There wasn't even a hint of them trying to find reasons to avoid paying.

My comment about my current experiences with Admiral were deleted by PH.
It seems you can gush but not raise an issue.
Admiral - caveat emptor is now my only comment,

That's very poor from pistonheads. This was developing in to be a valuable thread, balanced with positive and negative experiences. Nothing defamatory or libellous.

With the negative experience removed it is now not useful to car enthusiasts looking to share experiences.

Shame on you pistonheads. This is supposed to be a car enthusiasts message board.
