Best movie soundtrack is Queen of The Damned for me. Honorable mentions I guess would be Rocky and Dirty Dancing

Couldn't really pick out 1 particular best individual song as there's so many but I'll chuck a random one in here that is a fav.... Tonight Is What It Means to Be Young from Streets of Fire.

The thumping and clanging heartbeat during the oil well drilling scene is one of the most tense and dramatic in any film.

Ignoring classic instrumental-led soundtracks a-la Leone's spaghetti westerns and the John Williams stuff, I'd have to say:-

Top Gun. Not universally good, but as above I played it a lot as a kid
The Crow. Nicely judged
Natural Born Killers. Hell of a mix there...from Lard to Leonard Cohen. And works beautifully in the film. Probably the best, for me.

Grosse Point Blank also a good call...forgot about that one.

Im a big Hanz Zimmer fan, I went to the O2 to see the Blue Planet 2 on big screen with a live orchestra and have many of his sountracks.

Gladiator - the track The Battle is so powerful
Interstella - fantastic.
The Last of the Mohicans - Promentory (Main Theme)

Grosse Pointe Blank anyone?

Such a great film & soundtrack. I might have to watch again tomorrow night.

Agree with anything involving Lalo Schifrin. Plus a mention for Trainspotting & Spinal Tap.

First things that came to mind were Peter Gabriel's work on

Birdy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkvzV1FycLo

and

Passion - The last Temptation of Christ.

Written for the film

Shaft
Clockwork Orange

and Purple Rain

all three written for the film rather than existing songs used in a soundtrack

my first thought was:

Maximum Overdrive

but then you've got:

School of Rock
Rock of Ages
Heavy Metal
Dazed and Confused

Agreed - also worth checking out Tron Legacy:Reconfigured, which was a follow up where lots of dance artists like Paul Oakenfold, Moby, M83 etc all remixed the original Daft Punk tunes.

It's hard to beat Grease because it's a musical. I think you need to separate those films from ones which are not.

Opening - Neutron Dance (Pointer Sisters) - Beverley Hills Cop.

The theme tune to 'The Great Escape' is also a cracker.

Repo Man - cool film & great soundtrack of early/mid '80's (mostly) US punk & hardcore bands.
It's an epic film, along with that weird film with Mickey Rourke and Matt Dillon, Rumblefish was it?
