Either Midlands or South.

Specialising in classic Minis, long established and high reputation for quality would tempt me.

Thank you.

I don't know about restorations.

But Owens who build the race cars, Miglias etc have done some resto work, but hell they know how to build a Mini !

I don't know if this guy is any good, but what he does looks good to my untrained eye, so I look out for his posts on the mini forum.

I was going to recommend these guys:

https://woodham-mortimer.com/Restoration

But then I noticed they have brought the JD Classics name back and you'd need to do some Googling on that before committing to anything.

I've not used them myself, but a friend of mine (who knows his stuff) rates them highly:

Coventry classic minis are very good. They have a long waiting list though and are fully booked for this year I believe. They do pull in odd maintenance jobs though.

They have had a fair few of their cars featured in mini magazine, including mine.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I now have some firms to consider.

Reasonable, but the David Brown (no relation to DB) creations do not appeal to me at all.

A standard looking, true to original, Mark 1 Mini Cooper S, with huge power from a Swiftune engine, or an Aston Martin DB5 with concealed air conditioning is fine, but sticking many 21st century components on to a 1960s car, just seems ridiculous.

I don't think I am alone having that opinion, because the highest auction sale prices, often tend to be completely original cars, or cars modified for a specific purpose, such as racing or rallying.

Consider a Swiftune Madgwick, you won't regret it! They're beautifully built and have the best engines in the business (I race them).

Fred /Nippycars had a very good reputation but I’ve not heard a lot said about them the last 3 years or so.

Metal work wise tony enion near oulton park is one of the best I've seen. Knows his stuff on 60s coopers.

What needs restoration?

I know this is an old(er) thread, but thought i'd bump this as Greg and the team at Hares have done a fantastic job with the bodywork / paint on my MG ZR.

A couple of very nice mini's being turned around while i was there including one that had been sent over from Ireland for a full resto - looked lovely.
