My Gilmour Black Strat has the 'aged' option, but I've gone for the NOS version (New Old Stock) which works out cheaper by about 300 quid.
I personally, can make a guitar look aged, simply by owning and playing the thing, on top of which, I'll be spared all the lamens comments regarding the fact that I've paid two and a half grand for a guitar that looks knackered!!
Brother Gallagher didn't give a flying fig what his Strat looked like:I personally, can make a guitar look aged, simply by owning and playing the thing, on top of which, I'll be spared all the lamens comments regarding the fact that I've paid two and a half grand for a guitar that looks knackered!!
You may well guess from this lot that I'm a metalhead...
My first guitar. A bit of a Trigger's broom! It started off as a Tanglewood Strat copy, with the most hideous, glassy sounding single coil pickups in the world (probably). I loved it though as it looked (a bit) like one of the ones Dave Murray used to play! Only the body and neck survive of that original guitar...
My second guitar - bought for me years later as my 18th birthday present from my Mum! It is, of course, an entry level Jackson Rhoads with a bolt-on neck but I adored it! Sounded and played infinitely better than the Tanglewood (still at that time with the horrid pickups), but more importantly than that (at the time) - was a Jackson Rhoads, just like they used in all my favourite thrash bands!
I used this almost exclusively for the next 10 years. Recorded two albums and played almost every gig I've done with it - every last chip, scratch, ding and gouge has a story. One of my truly treasured possessions.
Epiphone Gothic Explorer. Always wanted an Explorer like the man from Metallica. Couldn't afford an ESP at the time so bought this and installed EMGs.
Bought this on a whim:
When I first saw this, it was lust at first sight. When I played it, it turned to love:
Bought this for £70 from a guy I worked with. Replaced the tuners and the toggle switch then replaced the pickups with a pair of Burstbucker Pros. A lovely sounding thing:
Another one bought on a whim - 7 string:

Slight thread hijack but as there's lots of players on here.
I really fancy learning to play the guitar and am wondering if this is worth getting:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Yamaha-acoustic-strings-pl...
Looks like it has everything I'd need. Just have to persuade the missus that it's a good idea!
Cheers
