Not sure how it's changed over the years if at all. My 2007 strat has tone control as you describe but I have found this schematic. All I know is I have no tone control at all on the bridge pickup.

Hi all

Had this for 4 or 5 years now, paid next to nowt for it from the bootsale!

It's a one piece in a Selmer Croc case, it's a strange owld thing with a jack socket/plug that's smaller than the standard 1/4", has Burns Trisonic pickups and a Rangemaster whammy setup!!

The guitar..

The strange little lead, bottom one is non standard and goes in the guitar, top one is 1/4" and goes into the amp/pedals etc..

The Selmer hardcase..

Cheers, John smile

52' (Apparently - who knows?) Gibson LG2

81 (Pretty sure) Ibanez strat copy.

Gibson sounds as you would expect but the Ibanez is an eye opener. I had one before (An SB 70 I think it was called) with 2 humbuckers on it. Similar ash body. They are great, great guitars. I just sold an ESP 800 series strat from 90' that was the best strat type guitar I've played. As good as than any Fender thus far. Next guitar is a JV Squire Spaghetti Logo Fender telecaster - Gibson bucker at the neck. Ace.

I always change guitars after a year/6 months or so. Always have. Easily bored as I'm pretty shallow.

Have you had a meter on the pots yet? That could be where the trouble is.

It would be interesting to see a picture of the underside of the scratchplate.

That 60's strat looks great. What does it sound like?

Like a strat only with added awesomeness. hehe

Really quacky through the neck pickup, and with a big bell tone through the neck. Middle pup was never my favourite on strats, but it's a 3 way switch, so you have that tricky balance thing to get the out of phase tones between the pickups. Mostly though, it feels so much nicer than a modern one. The AVRI's are the closest I've seen in feel, with the narrow necks but the Brazilian Rosewood is really warm.

As the previous poster said, Strats don't normally have a bridge tone control iirc - it is a very common mod though

Got it. Rolling the volume off is very effective at knocking back the tone on the bridge pickup. Anyway, under the bonnet pics.

And a piccy of my daughter as a pirate that she made on Cbeebies for good measure. smile

As for the guitar in the above video, it's not mine but I wish it was, it's a beauty! Though my dream Jacksons are the Charvel Soloist 750XL and the Jackson Soloist Bengal Tiger...

That Charvel looks almost identical to a Maison I bought over 20 years ago. There's little about Maison on the web. Although I haven't picked it up in years(hence the dust!), it's a lovely piece of kit. No idea of it's value today. I think I paid around £500 in the early '90's.

Here is my motley collection. 1st up: 1983 USA Strat. Quite rare ( but not valuable smile )as it was made during a cash limited time at Fender I believe ( something about being bought by CBS and wanting to maximise the company value I think ). That's why its only got 1 tone and the jack is 90 deg into the body. Its lovely to play though and I have had it for nearly 30 years now.

Next is a 1989 Epiphone SG G310 with humbuckers for some fat(ish) distortion. It was left to me by a good friend who played it much better than I ever could. He had lent it to me while he went traveling. He didn't make it back. I took it to the funeral to give back to his folks and they said he had obviously decided who should have it.:

Finally my Yamaha acoustic. Had a birthday budget of around £250 and spent hours in Guitar Guitar trying everything out and really pushing that budget. Despite playing lots and lots of medium price kit, I kept coming back to the £120 Yamaha. Its just really nice to play !! I have mates with £500 Fender acoustics and it amazes them every time !

Anyhow. My new Vox Ac4tv mini is arriving tomorrow and im gonna have fun with the Vox Stompbox 1g I ordered last week. Ill be happy with my lot after that ( although I really fancy a tele one day )
Photos were on crap phone at 8am this morn. I may replace them with better ones !

Your strat is from the arse end of the CBS era when they were cutting corners off production costs left right & centre. A year or two after it was made, Bill Schultz led a management buy out & started to rebuild the brand. If it plays & sounds good though, who cares?

Meanwhile, back in vintage collector land, I am £200 lighter.

Finally allowed to get both of them up on the wall as the kid is not taking over my study/practice room after all.

Not me !
Yes that CBS thing sounds familiar. So its from the lowest point in the companies history smile Still it makes for an interesting story - and I don't see many around !

Lovely story and a treasured instrument. Sorry about your friend.

Snap. I have a Yamaha acoustic that was around the 160 mark and it sounds bloomin' lush. Better than some a lot more expensive; it is odd.

re the Yamaha, a month after I bought it I had an bloke round fixing the washing machine. He spotted it and told me he had an 800 quid budget for his 50th (he a jazz man). He ended up with the same model and gigs with it every week.
thinking about it I'm sure it was around the 160 mark. Model is FX370C.

Thinking about pulling the trigger and buying this Strat at WG.

http://worldguitars.co.uk/63-stratocaster-heavy-re...

I respect not everyone is a fan of the heavy relic guitars, but I just love that worn in feel, particularly the necks.

Has anyone on the forum played a Strat with the Abby pickups? Any views appreciated.

Many thanks.

It was there earlier, now it isn't, so either 6th Gear pulled the trigger or someone else had it.

Personally I can't see the issue with the pick-ups, at that price yikes a set of different pickups wouldn't make much difference to the overall cost!

That was a very strong price for a strat, even a CS one. I'm sure if you kept your eyes peeled you'd find a better guitar for the money.
