Agreed, I'd love to get my hands on one of these.

Bought a 2017 Les Paul Standard HP a few weeks back but can't get on with it so it will need to go. Looks amazing though! Bought a satin green Jackson PC-1 to replace it, which plays great and sounds amazing. I'll post a pic later.

Back in the day, around 1990, I lusted over the Ibanez Jem guitars. At the time I owned the Ibanez RG560.

Now at the ripe age of 44yrs, I am into my Strats, Les Pauls and Teles.

I have recently been offered a Brand New Ibanez Jem 30th Anniversary in DY

Asking price is 4160 USD which includes its case, all documents and shipping.

Any Jem experts in the house? Thoughts on the advertised price and the Jem 30th Anniversary guitars in general?

There are two available. One in yellow, the other in shocking pink. I’m leaning towards the yellow. Loch Ness green isn’t available.

Thank you.
You can find those 30th Anniversary guitars for less than £3000 so the $ price seems about right. The 80's ones seem to hold their money well, not sure about new ones. I had a look at the Herman Li signature one - it was beautiful and had lovely build quality but I don't get on with the wizard necks. Shame.

I had a very similar experience with a 2017 Les Paul Standard recently. Funny because a Les Paul was my first guitar and I played one for years before moving to a Strat, but I found the 2017 strangely unfamiliar and just couldn't 'gell' with it. Constant tuning issues didn't help either.

Replaced it with an American Special Tele and balance has been restored.

I bought a 2011 50's Tribute Gold top a couple of years ago as a milestone birthday treat to myself. I've had the frets levelled to make them lower, like my other guitars, but I still don't feel properly comfortable with it. It sounds fantastic through my Marshall Mini Jubilee though, so I persevere with it. Oddly the Epiphone Standard LP I've had since the 1990s (which weighs a ton) feels nicer to play.

I still feel happiest playing my Strat though, but I love the LP>Marshall combo for sound.

I don't believe the re-issue ones will hold their value like a FP or the originals, but they are great things.

My Ibanez collection (7 currently!) is probably about to grow again soon...

What’s the neck profile like on the 30th Anniversary Jems?

I recall the original models had a nice rounded neck profile, not too thin.

I have a question.

Why do Fender give not a flying fig about anyone and everyone copying exactly their guitar shapes? Contrasting with litigation-happy Gibson, for example. I could go out tomorrow and buy any one of a hundred Strat copies, be it a finished guitar from a proper company or a DIY kit from a bloke in a shed in Bognor, and Fender don’t seem bothered. Same with Tele or Mustang or Jazzmaster or any of their lines.

I don’t get it. Are they not trademarked in any way?

Apparently not.

Like when you hoover a room instead of vacuuming it, if a company lets their IP fall into generic use it can't be protected. Which is why Adobe and Google clamp down hard on people who write about "photoshopping" and "googling".

I imagine Microsoft would shed a tear of joy if someone used "bing" as a verb. biggrin

Fender left it too long to copyright their body shapes, but their headstock shapes certainly are - one reason why recent Tokais, for example, no longer use them.

See, whilst I can almost understand that for a Strat shape, it still seems odd for the other Fender shapes. I guess whilst it's certainly helped the consumer, you'd be mighty annoyed if you were Fender in that case. And yet, has it really hurt them that much as a brand? From where I sit, on a seat that doesn't really like Strats that much, it still seems like there is still only one true Strat regardless of the copied shape. Certainly the F Strat range is pretty comprehensive and doesn't seem anywhere close to milking the name as Gibson do with the LP and ripping people off for a 'genuine' one.

Maybe it's a naive view, but Fender seem a very likeable and approachable brand.

Hello all. New to this thread. A lot of you have some absolutely beautiful guitars. I'm simultaneously envious and impressed!

Here are my two. I couldn't decide whether to get black or cherry sunburst so I bought the black one initially as it was cheaper and then a few months ago saw a good second hand cherry sunburst at a decent price so I snapped it up.

Very happy with them both. Now all I need to do is start playing them better than a blind deaf guy wearing boxing gloves.

Reminds me of the time I saw someone try that on Reddit, the only reply was "nice try Bill"

Looks like an explosion in a paint factory!

You'd think they could have sneaked in a bit of blue somewhere to complete the set.

I honestly cannot figure out if they're the most digusting things I've ever seen, or the most fantastic guitar in the world and I desperately want one. I keep swinging between both opinions!

Have to say in that pic I'm moving towards the latter smile
