Having dedicated small amounts of my recent free time to fiddling with my electric guitars, I decided to restring a crappy old classical guitar lying desolate in a long forgotten corner of the house.

Oh, how I've loved knocking out poorly fingered versions of ACDC classics on it.

So now, I want a steel strung acoustic. For almost no cash.

What's the answer? What's the best acoustic for next to no money?

There appear to be a good number of cheap guitars out there, but I secretly think I want an entry level Yamaha f 310.

Any other recommendations?

Normally the answer is a Yamaha and then find the one in budget, this is what i was advised when i bought my acoustic. I ended up with a Martin though so be careful with the budget creep!

Ugh, as always I get sucked into reading 50 pages of a thread and getting the hunger again. I used to play and gig a lot locally when i was in University and after, but had to leave my band once i started working offshore as I couldn't commit to any specific dates. I moved on to other hobbies etc and the guitars have been collecting dust ever since.

I have a Godin Radiator Black Onyx with a maple fretboard, a crappy plastic back electric/acoustic and a Yamaha that I bought when I was about 16. The Godin is plastered in stupid stickers and I hate the electro acoustic. Both of those will go shortly i think.

The Yamaha appears to have been quite a short production run but I have no intention of selling that. I've had it for twenty-odd years. It's battle damaged from gigging. The electrics were repaired at some point about 15 years ago but appear to have given up the ghost again.

Anyone have any advice for some upgrades? Or someone Dundee/Tayside way that anyone can recommend?

(pic not mine btw but this is the model I have)

Possibly not quite so happy about it now, I just read that in addition to their current financial woes, a German company is no suing them for $500 million for apparently ripping off their automatic tuning/robot machine head design.
Could be the final nail in the coffin for the ailing company? They've really lost their way recently.

Don't worry - it's just another in a long line of corporate setbacks. The IP for the names and designs will get sold and there will still be Les Pauls, etc going on into the next century.

Can anyone give me a very quick summary on the differences between Gibson Tribute, Studio and Standard? Is it just the quality of the materials, finish and hardware?

Does anyone have any idea what an early 90s Patrick Eggle Tony Iommi legend would be worth? It’s signed on the rear by Tony.

I think it’s quite rare, it’s the Berlin (I think) based version with tremolo (the arm is missing) I am lead to believe that these were not “production” guitars but genuine hand made.

Mods this is not a disguised sales thread just wondering as it’s just collected dust for 10 years.

I honestly cannot figure out if they're the most digusting things I've ever seen, or the most fantastic guitar in the world and I desperately want one. I keep swinging between both opinions!

Have to say in that pic I'm moving towards the latter smile
Definitely the latter :-)

I was undecided, but once I opened the case and plugged her in...

The Explorer has always been on my wish list and this became available last week.

Gibson Custom Shop ‘58 VOS in Mahogany

The guitar is in TV white and is one of only six in the world with this finish.

I purchased the guitar from a collector here and it's in brand new condition.

My wife thinks it looks ridiculous, but I love it!

After the sale of my Les Paul Studio left me with a single cut sized hole on my collection, an impulse bid on eBay has bought me this;

PRS SE 245 - First impression are really good; great crunch sound and pretty good cleans too. Might tweak the set up slightly and will definitely treat it to new strings but overall very happy with it.

New guitar day last friday...

I have wanted a 'relic' for some time. But at the end of the day I'm an Ibanez man.... This came up, and not at a terrible price. The idea is to keep it, love it and get some custom covers for the pickups. She is a lovely thing, obviously very much used and abused, but she's amazing.

With some stable mates...

(on looking at an earlier Ibanez post) Looks like an explosion in a paint factory!
This time, the explosion seems to have involved wallpaper instead.

biggrin Very close. The legend is that these were modeled on the curtains that hung in the front room of Steve Vai's parents. They are known as the Floral Pattern (JEM 77FP), and yes the paint is actually clear-coated material. They are now so popular that the BFP (Blue Floral Pattern) and FP2 (go on, guess!) became models later on in the JEM lifecycle.

Missed this thread.... I have a few basses.
Jack Casady Epiphone, not seen another one in blue, love it but it's on borrowed time as I don't play it much now.
Acoustic is great for working out new stuff when I can't be bothered with an amp.

A Reverend, went in looking to buy a Jaguar

My main bass and the reason I don't play the others so much. Wish I'd got one years ago.

1989 Japanese F P-Bass - Owned from new, stuck in the loft right now as it's a huge heavy beast. And my second ever bass after the awful Marlin P bass I had first.

There is also an Epi LP and a custom made/custom designed electric and another custom acoustic bass (my dad was a luthier, mostly did classical nylons).
