I’m sure about the scratchplate, I don’t like it. Rest looks ok though.
Trouble is, you don't know what you're going to find under it! Paint a slightly different colour for example.

Could be easy to change, could be a nightmare.

Given the attention to detail it is probably non faded / yellowed sonic blue underneath. I like the scratch plate so i don't need to find out. Its a 2018 guitar

Not a new guitar, but I finally got round to routing it for a neck humbucker today and put it all back together. Still have a few tweaks to do, but pleased with it so far.

I think it'll look better with a single ply Bakelite guard, so it'll look more like the Hot Rod Tele that inspired me (but I prefer the 7.25" radius so mine is based on a '50s Classic).

I've used an old humbucker off my Epiphone Les Paul until I can get something better. I already had the 'Lil '59 bridge single coil sized humbucker in a cheap Affinity Tele. They match quite well in level terms (neck screwed well down to the 'guard). The 250K pots in there are maybe taking some of the highs, so I've ordered a pair of 500K CTS pots and a 0.22uF cap, plus a Bakelite guard.

I've taken the plunge again, last time I touched a guitar was 20 years ago, so I've gone dirt cheap as I'm effectively starting all over again.

This is a Harley Benton ST20 HSS direct from Thomann in Germany , really great first impressions and compares very favourably with the Squier Strat I had many years ago. Plenty of modding potential too when I feel the need to upgrade the pickups and tuners later on. action feels good at just a smidge under 2mm at the 12th fret.

Not a guitar, but just bought one of these to go with the HD500X that I've had for a while now

Sounds fantastic with plenty of low down punch and a great range of tones - very happy

Likewise, though about fifteen years for me. £65 Pacifica 112J from gumtree, how can I go wrong?

Having said that, the neck feels really odd to me- the last time I played I had a Nitefly with a compound radius and jumbo S/S frets, there's not much out there like that anymore! I keep being drawn to guitar shops but I'm resolute that this time I'm going to be the opposite of the All Gear, No Idea bedroom guitarist I was before.

Tangent alert! How are you running the MB Studio Pre? Recording outs into the computer/monitors, or normal outputs into the computer via an IR, or into a guitar amp.

From memory (like I said it was a while ago) I ran the Pre's recording outs into a tiny analogue mixing desk (which you can't see) which could then send the signal to either my monitors directly, to the PC via the ancient Tascam thing you can see on the shelf, or to the WEM Dominator tucked in the corner. I was pretty proud of it all at the time, but TBH if I did it again I think I'd go with a simple digital modeling pedal and maybe a tasty low wattage amp. We seem really spoiled for choice these days.

Not a guitar but a couple of changes to the pedalboard. Used to stack a tubescreamer on top of a klone for my live high gain needs, but never been quite able to dial in the sound how I'd like, as I play single coil guitars mostly and it tends to lack the girth... wink

Took a chance on the AMT P2 and been very pleased with it either DI to the PA or into the front end or FX return of an amp. The Germanium OD pushing it, has been quite a combination with the clean up of the OD really enhancing the P2. I don't tend to stay in the high gain territory for much but rolling back the volume the P2 cleans up surprisingly well... enjoying the fizzing, sharp bluesy tones very much. smile

Well if we're sharing pedalboards.... (excuse the crap photo)

535q - I'm not a massive wah user, but it does the job
Forest Green Compressor - I won't play clean without compression, I guess this one is as good as any
Mosiac 12 string effect - This is actually really good, it might not be perfect simulation, but it's a good effect none the less
ts9 keeley mod - phwroooooor this thing sounds so good!!
EQ pedal - I swear by these, they're such a versatile tool
Dimension C - This is my favourite pedal, it's a chorus and it's great at getting those 80s pop choruses; The Cure, The Smiths etc. sounds ace
DD-3 - does the delay thing, can't say more than that, it was my first ever pedal, never felt the need to replace it mind
Hall of Fame 2 - Lovely reverb, don't think I've ever got the most out of it's features though

Well, I just picked up this badboy (girl? Is it a badgirl?) today, it's an entry level Jackson Kelly hardtail, shape is similar to the Gibson Explorer but a little more angular. Always fancied one of these ever since seeing Marty Friedman rock one in his Megadeth days. I'm not always super into the whole 'pointy metal axe' thing but always had a soft spot for these and the BC Rich Mockingbird.
Paid £50 cash for it which I think is an absolutely cracking deal, it does have one or two small dings (which is to be expected when it's got so many sticky out bits and refuses to sit on most stands) but nothing serious. The neck is straight as an arrow, very playable. The electrics all work although there's a wee crackle on the volume pot... but all in all, stonking value for something that would have cost between £350 and 400 new. A good thorough clean and some fresh Elixirs and it'll be good to go. The main compromises over the classic Kelly is that it's a bolt-on neck rather than through-body and obviously the electronics are fairly average but it's quite loud even unplugged, and I reckon I might treat it to some nice active Iron Gear pickups once I've cleaned it up.

I just wish every time I bought a guitar, my playing automatically got better!

Awesome looking guitar.

My first brand new guitar bought with my own money was a Jackson Ke3 Kelly. It was utterly ridiculous and a pain to restring (should have went hardtail!), but the most beautiful thing in the world. I was always terrified I'd knock it against something.

I keep looking at Warlocks now hah!
I don't even really play or listen to metal that much any more, I just really like the idea of busting out the jazz chords on these mad-looking things!

I bought a Warlock Bronze for £30 from someone selling near me about a year ago, it's a crappy thing to play and I hate it but it just looks so cool hanging on the wall biggrin

That would totally worry the hell out of me too, so in some respects I'm glad I bought it with a couple of dings already on it as that way I can basically just enjoy it and not be too precious about damage. Back in the 90s I dropped about USD 2k on a PRS Custom 22, flamed maple, '10' top, birds inlays, the works. Always kept it in the case when it wasn't in my hand etc etc. Then at a band practise some drunk-ass managed to kick over one of the cymbals on the drum kit which hit my guitar which was resting in the case with the lid open and gave it a massive gouge in the clear coat and flaked a load off. Suffice it to say I was SPEWING. But then after I got over it, I felt better and just started to treat it like a normal guitar. I still have it and it's picked up a couple more dings over time but considering it's like 23 years old now, it still looks presentable, bar the colour has faded.

Wow. What did that RRP at?

I have been a little put off BC Rich by talk of shoddy build. Saying that I nearly bought a Warlock semi acoustic off a friend of a friend but the price was a little too high and I didn't like the dagger-shaped F holes.

Yeah I know that feeling. The Nightfly above lived a cossetted life until I sold it a couple of years ago during a financial bad spell, it was a time warp example.

I now realise all my years protecting it were vanity, I should have enjoyed it to death and sold it as a well used example and took the 10-40% financial hit and got over the OCD of owning something pristine. Won't make the same mistake again!

Slightly off topic but, I swapped an unwanted Mexican Telecaster for a 15 Watt Marshall valve amp a few weeks ago, don’t regret it at all, sounds amazing with high gain on the clean channel and a Strat plugged into it biggrin .
