Not sure about the best, but one that's stuck in my mind from playing it last night is Hysteria by Muse.
Some of the stuff Muse does is very, very good, my pal is a pretty good bass player and just can't do some of it

Agree with lots of suggestions here - one I've always loved is 'Can you dig it' by the Soup Dragons. Nothing special in the grand scheme of things but has something.

Also, ' The old man's back again' - Scott Walker.

The drop from 0:16 - 0:22s is awesome, and the throb starting at 4:10 is enough to wake the street! - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8Q5j9kXT_o

Nothing by Peter Hook yet?

As most Joy Division/New Order songs have great basslines there is plenty of choice, but I'll go with Sunrise.

I would say : Studio 1 - Green C is the most pushing and best baseline.

Do you mean Greedy G as sampled for 'Jack of Spades'? if so great b-line.

The Smiths - Barbarism Begins at Home
yes This is probably my favourite Smiths track - for me there's just something magic about the way the guitar and bass parts fit together!

Not heard this for a good 10 years - awesome! smile

I can't believe we've gone 3 pages into a PH thread on basslines without any mention (unless I've missed it?) of 'The Chain'!

Baselines on a car forum - Red Barchetta has got to have a mention.

As you can see from this clip, Geddy is pretty busy with the bass. Also love Alex's harmonics on the in and outros.

Then of course, the Chilis - otherside http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynhChNKRVB0

If you play that 16 - 22 at the limit (just under) of your speakers, have a look at what the bass cones do. It is magical!
