I know it's been mentioned a few times on here but has anybody heard the live version of Disturbed singing the Sound of Silence in Houston

Draiman joined on stage by Myles Kennedy singing in harmony

Just wow!

This week:
Atlas Moth - Coma Noir
https://theatlasmoth.bandcamp.com/album/coma-noir-...
I've been enjoying this album last week or so. Good mix of sludgy stoner with some experimental stuff. The screaming parts won't be to everyone's tastes mind, the singer is a bit screechy for some tastes.

Horizon Ablaze - The Weight of a Thousand Suns
https://horizon-ablaze.bandcamp.com/album/the-weig...
I'll get this out of the way first, they sound like Gojira doing a black/death metal concept album. If you can get over that the album is really catchy, nicely heavy, and has plenty of repeat value.

Slugdge - Esoteric Malacology
https://slugdge.bandcamp.com/album/esoteric-malaco...
Was recommended to me earlier this week, a band that sings about nothing but slugs, but has some finely crafted songs despite the gimmick. Out today and I've already listened to it twice. Mix of death and sludge, and likely to be on heavy rotation for me for the duration.

Still on heavy rotation: Visigoth - Conqueror's Oath (fking awesome power metal), In Vain - Currents, Mammoth Grinder - Cosmic Crypt.

Good story that. thumbup

In other news, more grunge (pre-grunge to be precise) than metal, but definitely rock and roll, I watched a really good documentary about a band I've always loved, Mudhoney. Well worth a look as they were really the band that launched the Seattle based Sub Pop lable: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2492562/

Oooooh, thanks for that heads up. Liking it a lot, but it's a shame Freese has gone, and a particular shame that Lenchantin is no longer on bass. Will have to wait for the album to judge fully but on the basis of that track the bass is taking a more of a background role, and seems a little less adventurous or eloquent.

yeah, i thought her bass playing was beautiful in a non complicated pure sense.....self assured enough to be prominent without being overstated
Just catching up on this thread and yes agreed - in a lot of music the bass/drumline is the hook that gets me into the song and the guitar is what turns good into great, but with APC it's often the other way around...the hollow guitars/vocals hook you and then the bass and drums seem to take the lead and take the song up a level.
- The Noose
- Weak and Powerless
- The Package
- Rose

(Passive is probably a more balanced song, with the vocals really driving it home, esp. the live version)

yeah pretty much nail on the head....

while we are chatting bass....

the bass playing on the new glassjaw album is fking amazing you know ....sounds as heavy as a tonne of bricks but the way it rolls around under everything else in a very prominent fashion gives a huge shifting sands feel to the panicky stabbing guitars ......then the vocals seem to thread silver through all the huge lumps. a quite incredible album, especially after a 17 year hiatus

there's a song on it called strange hours which is all sorts of fked up timings with elvis costello-esque vocals....

Damn! Is that new or 20 years old?

- Hints of Deftones in the vocal delivery, and in the cadence of the songs
- Bassline is at times leaning towards industrial-rock (think Stabbing Westward, Gravity Kills, Filter), at other times the drums take over and feel more sludgy
- Guitars (esp. on the first song) have some real alt-grunge elements (AIC especially).

...in short, how did they pass me by in my 20s?!?

PS - Strange Hours - WTF?

Ha!....when strange hours hit me i had to play it back again.and again....so clever!....

Fortunately for me I was on board with glassjaw from the start because my roots were in hardcore so the new York and Washington stuff was where I was at from my early teens. Gorrila biscuits and burn were pretty much my thing so as it all started to morph with fugazi and quicksand and orange 9mm into post hardcore that was the absolute business for me....of course being into all that I was exposed very early on to the newer bands from this altered state hard-core.. ..enter glassjaw!.... I can't believe how good this new album is and to come along at the same time as new quicksand is a blessing....i never thought we would see a quicksand reunion with Walter doing all side stuff with rival schools and vanishing life etc....but even more so with Sergio Vega becoming a permanent replacement for chi cheng in deftones....

It's been a good few months for me musically!

Check out the last two albums as well, they're great. Also, read the lyrics! There's still a lot wrapped in their own mythos, but stuff like "Crop Killer" and "Salt Thrower" have a lot more to them.

I'll have to check out Glassjaw on that basis. As someone that'd tinkered on a bass guitar for years, bass is one of the key elements for me in any music. Whether it be the driving bass behind everything, or the centre-stage, I'd say it defines my tastes in music more than anything else.

While we're on great Aussie bands:

Floating Me - hopefully something new won't be too far off but they keep themselves to themselves a bit!
Cog - back together, touring and working on new material
Karnivool - new album not far off

Its rare for me to read the song titles let alone the lyrics laugh I gave their back catalog a go over the weekend, really enjoyed that as well. Just hope they do a tour with a date near me soon now.

I don't think they've ever played live, so unlikely at the moment. I'm sure they'd make it interesting if they change that, though.

That is annoying, hopefully the number of people who have started listening to them with the new album will change their mind.

The other old band I found recently, Drudkh, also don't do tours. So annoying.

I would give my right arm to see Drudkh play Blood In Our Wells in it’s entirety live!
