Gigs seem to be like buses for me...none for ages, then loads come along all at once. Last one was very much djent/metalcore, but this one is firmly in the grind / doom / sludge camp...

Atrocity Exhibit
Meadows
NothingClean
Iron Grave
Wolfbeast Destroyer

I suspect Some of that might get a bit lively, which has never really been my thing, so I shall doubtless be at the bar nodding along at a safe distance.

ETA - post gig report.

Meadows are monstrous!

OK, I am late to the party with this band, I dismissed them originally as run of the mill Deathcore and I hate Djent, but I stumbled upon them again and the album is like an onion, opening up and revealing more and more with repeated plays, this is my current favourite song from their Scryers of the Ibis opus:

Ovid's Withering - Oedipus Complex (give it a full listen)

I'm going through a similar thing with bands in the whole modern / metalcore sort of style. Was at a small gig locally with Sleepwalker and From Once We Came, both of whom are firmly in the "shout / clean / shout / breakdown / clean" camp of bands who seem to spend an inordinate amount of time jumping up and down in a derelict warehouses and writing about betrayal, revenge and self-discovery, but really enjoyed them both live. Guess it's context. Most of that stuff just blurs into one for me, and it struggles to feel honest after a while, but fans of that style could quite justifiably say the same about the stuff I listen to. You can quite happily fire up one of those "full album playlist" channels on YouTube, put on some brutal and slam death metal and not have the faintest idea who you're listening to after about five minutes, and the vast majority of Black Metal is horribly contrived. Not about to go back and listen to Asking Alexandria, BMTH and that sort of thing, but has opened me up to bands I'd otherwise never have considered. As long as it isn't moronic tough guy posing, I can even deal with deathcore these days.

Normal service being resumed this weekend, as local club has Casket Feeder, Sharkteeth Grinder and Negative Thought Process, which is a lot of noise for £3!

The new Ghost album, Prequelle, is out. It's a tad different as a lot of the lower end bass has gone compared to their older stuff - great album though!

Looking to get my hands on a copy of this. Been a fan of theirs for a fair while now and loved the Popestar EP.

Rob Zombie has just released a live album of Astro Creep 2000 (White Zombie album from 1995). Is rather good!
thumbup Thanks.

Quick question for everyone - Corrosion of Conformity are touring again - the long-term line-up appear to be back together again (Pepper Keenan fronting). Has anyone heard their new stuff / seen them live recently...wondering if it's worth checking them out or whether I should keep the memories from the 1990s???

I saw them Monday night actually! They played a tiny gig at Colchester Arts Centre (which is weirdly an old church). Really good gig, lots of stuff from Deliverance mixed in with newer stuff, and from their latest album. Was a 6 hour round trip for me, but definitely worth it.

I'm planning on seeing them again in October
