I'm 32 so they were a big band for me during my formative years but I simply cannot be arsed with them three days.
Every few years it's the same old story about a new album being in the works followed by a European summer festival run where they stink out stages all over the place, they don't really get on and they don't want to be on stage together and it shows, they should do the decent thing and properly call it a day.

This wasn't an attempt to reform, but yeah you can tell they don't really get on 100% Every few years it's the same old story about a new album being in the works followed by a European summer festival run where they stink out stages all over the place, they don't really get on and they don't want to be on stage together and it shows, they should do the decent thing and properly call it a day.

Yeah I know - I get the background behind the songs and such forth. I was speaking more of their festival appearances that crop up, Download for example, they did 2011 and 2017 and were due for this year (now doing 2021 if it goes ahead) and the 2011 show was terrible, literally a phoned in gig, one of the worst that I have ever seen. I wasn't there for 2017 but I've heard a lot of negative stuff about that, too.
Bit sad really. I had Steal This Album on in the car earlier and it's a belter!
It is a shame about SOAD as they have done some fantastic work over the years. I can still getting hold of their first album and raving it about it, wasn't until 2001 when Toxicity arrived that they suddenly became huge.
Those two tracks are ok, the first definitely better than the second. One does sound more like the Scars on Broadway stuff and the other more like a Serj solo track. I suppose if they're heart isn't in it, it's going to show.

I'm really on the fence about the new SOAD songs. I listened to them on release day and haven't listened to them since & to be honest, can't remember what they even go like. That probably sums it up tbh...
But, they are Scars on Broadway (can't bring myself to write the full amended band name...) songs that were made for SOAd to raise money, and last I saw it was something like $600,000 raised to help out with the Armenian situation, which I can't fault and they are obviously all very passionate about it.
It's a good situation that they've come together to release a couple songs but I don't think it's what the fans were after, regardless of intentions. I think the differences in the bandmates, egos etc is too much and I doubt we'll see any proper SOAD again, sadly.

I don't think I posted about it when I came out, but Raging Speedhorn have a new album out, hard to kill and its the best since the debut album, over its led than 30 minutes it's hugely varied but always delivering the heavy chaos expected from Speedhorn, its got the slower doom track to the outright aggression they were known for back in the day. I really don't know what they could have done to make it any better and it's nice to see them deliver after all these years.

What about Emmure or Parkway Drive? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1m5jHyeZOw
I was about to point out that Tesseract have been going for nearly 20 years, took me a moment to realise that you were quoting the (ten year old) OP there
Parkway are tremendous though, yes. I saw them at Hellfest in 2018, they played the 1am slot, best festival set that I have ever seen.

didn't expect to get a post from a decade ago quoted! i'm a big fan of the djent thing, really enjoyed watching the good bands like tesseract and periphery go from nothing to mega stardom over the last 10 years and some other pearlers have appeared too like skyharbor....
i like the antipodean sound particularly across many genres... cirles being their best djent band........
but i'm not such a big fan of metal core and i find bands like emmure and parkway drive a bit....cheesy (sorry!!).... i'm far more into old traditional hardcore and post hardcore tbh...

And if anyone else spent 10 minutes fruitlessly searching for an Aussie djent band called "Cirles" it's actually "Circles". And quite good! sorry pal!!!
at least you got there in the end!... a great band... their last album is incredible... well it all is tbf...
16 years, christ.. it doesn't feel that long ago! .. i always wonder what he might have sounded like as he aged, what would that crushing riff machine morph into... he was too good a musician to remain static .. i'm sure he would have created , or rather, continued to create innovative music
