I just read back through to see if Brian Eno - An Ending, had been mentioned, it has.

But I also was thinking slightly different pieces of music from men that are equally beautifully sung. Slightly haunting maybe, but not in a particularly chilling sense

Rufus Wainwright - Hallelujah

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmbQEQltOwM&fea...

But I'm also keen on Leonard Cohen

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJTiXoMCppw&fea...

So there's both.

And more chaps with beautiful music and a touch of orchestra Arcade Fire - Wake Up

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEKC5pyOKFU&fea...

And that John Murphy track. From that film, about those things...

as much for the story behind the song, as the song

I'd like to retract my previous entry. I'd completely forgotten about this one. Make me cry every time I hear it.

Silent Night by Lisa Hannigan. It's just so beautifully sung.

I'll be interested to hear what you think it's about as my wife and I have argued this one for years. She thinks it is about a relationship break up, I think it's about the last moments of a dying partner. Listening to lyrics it could be either.

Not sure if it's been mentioned (no YouTube access at the mo), but I can't watch Requiem for a Dream without shivers down my spine whenever Winter Overture by the Kronos Quartet comes on.

No vocals, but a truly haunting score even without the context of the film.

'kin hell yikes

Absolutely bloody marvellous stuff, that.

It seems a little churlish to post a link to Street Spirit by Radiohead with that in mind.

Incredibly simple but very (very) touching. There are many versions on Youtube if you don't like the clip.

Sigur Ros - Saeglopur
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOuKdeZ2x-M

I'm driving to work, early in the year, its just before sunrise so still relatively quiet on the motorway. Theres a certain amount of stress at work, not fun times. This comes on the radio as the tender light pushes away the dark, the music pushes the stress from my mind for a few minutes. Contentment. Bliss. And then its over, back to the real world...

Several tracks could of come from the blessed burden album, but picked this one.. definitely worth checking out that album though.
