Too true!
Just watching some stuff now on YouTube, brilliant stuff!
Reminding me that he has a similar left hand style to Michael Schenker in that he doesn't use his little finger much and has an enourmous 1st to 2nd finger reach which spans 3 or 4 frets.
Spectacular!
And were you aware he was left handed but learnt as a more orthodox right hander.Just watching some stuff now on YouTube, brilliant stuff!

The Scum reporting he choked on his own vomit.
Just found it.GUITAR ace Gary Moore died on holiday yesterday - choking on his vomit after knocking back champagne and brandy.
Doesn't quite stack with this quote.
The hotel source said: "They were going to eat at the restaurant but it was closed so they had a sandwich at the bar with a bottle of champagne. They went for a stroll then back to the bar where Gary had brandies. He seemed fine when he left around 11pm."

This has stunned me,i feel sick!Been into playing guitar, and admiring the many great guitar players out there for years. To me he's the only player who really seemed to command a Les Paul, ring it's neck and make it sing!RIP Gary.
Spot on fella. There are many guitarists I enjoy, but Gary was unique, amazing touch and feel. The speed he had came from emotion as opposed to learned technique.A sad loss.

Agreed!Funny how some folk just master a particular instrument and it becomes synonymous....
Still can't quite believe Moore is gone.

Hope nobody minds me adding this, I always felt it was a hidden gem of an album!

Yeah. he used a Strat for The Loner, didn't he? Beautiful tone on that recording.
I don't think so. Think it was a Charvel or Jackson or something like that? Quite a heavily processed sound on the loner too - it's a great track and one that I am trying to learn myself. Even more determined now that Gary has passed away I never managed to get to see Gary live, and had been thinking that I should try and see him the next time he tours, but will now have to make do with the DVDs.

I'm in that boat too. We didn't see many live acts in SA when I was there. Now I'm in the UK there's plenty of choice but it's really expensive. Gary was one of the very few I was looking into and would have gone to see, but I've left it too long.I never managed to get to see Gary live, and had been thinking that I should try and see him the next time he tours, but will now have to make do with the DVDs.
Sad loss indeed of the man with a face like a welders bench !.
Saw him several timers but highlight was the last ever Lizzy gig at Hammy Odeon c.1983 when all the old
guitarists, Bell, Gorham, Robertson, Ure, Sykes etc all played encores at the end.
Think GM played stunning version of Black Rose.
Here's a clue

What also springs to mind is: who will now continue the legacy of Peter Green's Les Paul after so many years of proud stewardship in the hands of Mr G Moore?

Well, the next Irishman to take that mantle has got to be Pat McManus; who incidently I'm going to see in Harrogate at the start of March But he plays mostly PRS (but does have a few LPs and FVs that he uses).
