Gary Moore Passes Away

One of my enduring memories of Gary is that tune, and that middle solo.
What also springs to mind is: who will now continue the legacy of Peter Green's Les Paul after so many years of proud stewardship in the hands of Mr G Moore?
I can think of only one man, quite young, talented, with a love of guitars and their history. What also springs to mind is: who will now continue the legacy of Peter Green's Les Paul after so many years of proud stewardship in the hands of Mr G Moore?

Well, the next Irishman to take that mantle has got to be Pat McManus; who incidently I'm going to see in Harrogate at the start of March
But he plays mostly PRS (but does have a few LPs and FVs that he uses).
ah haaaa... But he plays mostly PRS (but does have a few LPs and FVs that he uses).
Reading '83 - what a set they put on, Mamas Boys that is, remember hearing it on Tommy Vances Rock Show, Needle in the Groove and all that. Brilliant stuff.

On a related note.
I remember reading an interview with Gary some years ago in one of my guitar mags. He recalled a story where he'd read an interview with Kirk Hammett of Metallica, where Kirk said that the best guitar sound ever was from a tune in Gary's repertoire (can't remember which one it was).
Anyway.
Gary said "It's easy. All he needs is a Les Paul, like this. A Marshall JCM900, and a Marshall Bluesbreaker pedal"

Well its been 4 days since I heard of Garys passing and I still cant get it out of my head. This guy had such a massive effect on my life in my teens (And since of course - now 42) and its like a familly member has gone, but its sort of different to that.
Its made me have a rethink about everything and it makes me feel old. I have no answers though!
RIP Gary.
The only thing I am glad about is that he was so prolific with his talent. He has left a huge legacy.

hmmm.......me too, I was playing my 18 versions of "Stormy Monday" playlist at the weekend of which his was one of them, and was thinking the same.I was thinking I should apologise for bumping this thread, but I've been noodling away on my guitar more and more recently (certainly more often than I used to; and only because a few weeks ago I decided to nail The Rain Song by Zep), and after re-tuning to standard EADGBE I'm playing Chicago Blues type stuff.
Gary, really, should be mentioned in the same breath as Kings BB / Freddie / Albert, SRV, Bonamassa, Guy, Clapton and Waters when it comes to electric blues.
Anyway, you could say it's an excuse to post this as well (hat tip to Kinky for finding it):

Gary was simply on another level to some of the names mentioned int his thread.........he was, and is, my all time favourite guitarist....
...listen to him on this 1979 performance of his version of Don't believe a Word........listen to that tone ........he killed it even with a broken E string.....the man was a true God
