I went along to the NEC today for the first time, using the MSA discount to make it a bit cheaper. I also opted for the live arena ticket.
I agree with the sentiments above, it is expensive (as are most things in the uk), but is it any worse than things like the Gadget Show (which also no longer has the appeal of the lady off Countdown!) ?

Like the Gadget Show, to me the Autosport show is something to go to every 3-4 years. It would be tiresome going every year , better to spread it around and go to something different each year eg Festival of Speed, London Classic Car show, Historic weekend at Silverstone, World rallycross at Lydden, WEC and enjoy some variation (appreciate they are not on during the Jan-Mar lull). After all, race cars should be seen moving.

Having once seen the Top Gear Live show (another thing I wouldn't do too often - probably never now!), the Live arena is much the same stuff without the humour of the 3 (previous) presenters. The Williams F1 car sounded cool in a confined space and seeing various car race types never hurts (guy behind me said he never realised there were so many categories of racing, so it's a good advert for motor sport).

Trouble is there is a limit to what you can do live in a small space and for next year I would do something different and set out a go kart track in the hall (and maybe out into the next hall if needed - with big screen coverage), get some decent renta-karts (or club 100 type) and get a load of drivers (touring car, brisca, kart hotshots, famous names (Wayne Gardner, Damon, McNish are all around this weekend) and run some sprint races - be more interesting than ROC which again isn't something you would attend too often). Karts for one year would be a bit different, and the drivers (old and new) always want to win.

So in summary, glad I went....if only to see all the Williams F1 cars, and I did think Susie Wolff was rather cute in person !! Would I go next year ? No, in 5 years? ....maybe.....if only to buy a Pistonheads sticker which was my one "must do" today....and I forgot !....Sorry for the long ramble.
