Is this winch installed back to front?

....picked it up from my local landy guy who took it off another clients' defender and installed it on mine. In the process of cleaning it up and changing the cable for a rope when I realised it doesn't look right to have the cables coming in from the front and the little screws securing the motor bracket on the back where you can't get to them. Am I right that it's on a$$ backwards?

I would think the key factor is where does the winch cable come out from?

I agree that's more important and it comes from the bottom as it should. It just seems a bit nuts to expose the cables to any more of the crap I drive through than necessary. Plus it's really hard to get the motor bracket off like this...
