Cruising speed

I got myself a series 3 Landy with all the bits (mostly!) for off roading, the problem is that it's too bloody slow on the motorway, and I've been bitten by the 4x4 bug that much, I've already booked my summer holiday 4x4'ing in the south of France.
So, I'm looking to sell the series 3, and buy a cheap Defender, (diesel) can anyone tell me what cruising speed I'd be getting out of one?

I can't help on the cruising speed, but if it's only the getting to and from the South of France that is an issue with the Series 3, have you considered using Motorail?

Out of curiosity what do you consider too slow? Or are you talking about a lack of acceleration?
Must say it's something that concerns me a little, I'm about to buy a patrol which is relieving my skyline GTR of it's daily driver duties, going from mega power to mega slow I fear may be somewhat frustrating initially.

I don't think you need to be overly worried with the Patrol. I find driving the Shogun to be a very relaxing on road experience because I know that it does its stuff off road, so I don't feel frustration if I'm not having fun on the road in it.Must say it's something that concerns me a little, I'm about to buy a patrol which is relieving my skyline GTR of it's daily driver duties, going from mega power to mega slow I fear may be somewhat frustrating initially.
If this Series 3 is anything like the ones I used to drive in the TA though, then you're talking about something which can't get much above 60mph and sounds like an amplified tractor!
I'd love one for off road fun, but like the OP, I wouldn't want to drive any significant distance on the roads to get to that fun!

Different sort of beastie though, isn't it! You'll be able to waft along serenely, looking down on all the peasants in their euroboxes, knowing that you'll still be able to have more fun at 10mph than most of them would be able to have at 100! Still itching to pick it up though
I find when I take the 260 out, it's 80% frustration for 20% fun on Surrey's crowded roads, whereas the Shoggie is 80% relaxation in anticipation of getting to the mud!
