It’s the kind of place you go to display your wealth. Have to wonder why you booked it?
Not wanting to be argumentative but nobody here is wealthy and none of it is on display. In fact that is what has had my head scratching. The costs I’m aware of are out of kilter with everything else, it is just a tourist trap. I’m convinced that some of the guests come from markets that enjoy different pricing. Day trippers galore and nothing is geared up for repeat business / service.

Anyway, we’re just trying to make the best of it now. Focus on the weather (which is good), the dolphins and water park, as well as a day trip or two with the kids to Legoland for example.

Why did we book it?

The marketing drew us in and having Nobu and Hakkasan in-house suggested a certain level of quality / service.

We had two recommendations (which tends to be the way we get attracted to something). They say word of mouth recommendations from people who tend to enjoy the same things as you is a good way to go and has served us well in the past.

One of the recommendations was friend of a friend so we probably believed what we wanted to hear from them and the second recommendation we’re quite surprised they enjoyed it / recommended it.

It has been decided to go to Lapland next year before the kids grow out of believing in Santa. Maybe the Caribbean after that if we miss the sun.

If a short cab ride is acceptable, try club vista mare just before the palm fronds. I live on the palm and the bar there is pretty much the only place I go.
Thank you for the recommendation. We may well try it out. We have a bit of time to spare!

Hi I have been too many years here, Atlantis has lost a lot of its appeal, expensive aimed at Russian and Chinese tourists. Food is not so good and service poor.
Go to the Jumeriah and dhow and anchor, happy hour 12pm to 7pm, beer reasonable for Dubai at AED 35, food is good and has fish and chips vegetarian options. Most places are child friendly and enjoy rest of break.

Currently staying in the Atlantis Palm and I am sorely disappointed.

OK the building / pools etc. have plenty of potential but the pricing is unfathomable.

I would say I understand a thing or two about premium pricing and have no qualms about high prices - even when value might be questionable.

Here at The Palm a bottle of water costs £8 and a soft drink £5.

A burger and a couple of pizzas and a round of soft drinks costs £135!

The concept seems to be modelled on better Las Vegas hotels in that they have very transient customers, day trippers etc., so there’s lots of process, queueing and ‘organisation’ / herding. I appreciate Vegas is subsidised by the gambling but I don’t understand the commercial approach at The Palm?

Literally no one is ordering by the beach / pool etc.

I would have thought that lowering the prices would inspire some demand and somewhere lies a the optimal balance between volume and profit. I don't expect it to be cheap but a bit more accessible pricing would be nice - I’m assuming for them as well as for me!
Dubai is full of excellent mid-price hotels. Next time book Premier Inn or the like and go out all day.

If you think Atlantis is expensive, start saving for Lapland. It makes the Atlantis look cheap ! We went with Santa's Lapland. High price, mediocre quality, however I came back almost believing. They have a captive market. Some nice touches however like reindeer at the airport to greet you and plenty of hyperactive annoying elves at every turn.

For a nice, no pressure pub type night out, with great food for adults and children, local for the Palm and Media City, I think bar at Citymax Barsha takes some beating for price and quality. A lot of snobby chums disagree, but for comfort food type night out, I'd recommend it.

Although you're probably back now :-)

I didn't see any shenanigans there..... No nudgyness at all. What did have I been missing !?!?!

On another project at the moment, and been staying at the Holiday Inn Barsha with a team of fellas. The bar there is full of low rent scabby toms and smokers. The hotel is perfectly acceptable as a budget base - we're away long days and just need a place to sleep. The in-house indian restaurant is mega, and it's just a stroll to Mall of the Emirates and the Kempinski for an overpriced drink by the pool of an evening.
