just as there seems to be an out flux I`ve been offered a position based in Dubai so need a little advice as to rough budgeting.

Any recommendations on who I can speak to or can someone pm me?

I`d supply beer and a good meal when I`m out 13th-18th April and endless chat about expensive engine rebuilds

Just for completeness I move out 11th of October with my wife and 2 girls following on the 28th.
Thanks to both guys for the initial email contact it was very helpful.
We are moving to The Villa development. House hunt was made slightly more difficult as my wife decided on one street there and nothing else would do. Kids start at Aquila school in Nov.
Anyone live/lived at The Villa?

James lives in the villa, totally forgotten what his ph username is tho. I know a couple other people there as well. Decent houses, hope you bagged one with a garage!

Didn't Chilli as well?

Great time to rent, arse continues to fall out of the market.

I'm just up the road in Ranches, welcome to the sandpit!

I think he still is there yes. Dusty also I think, so those 2 have likely built dubai’s Equivalent of the blue oyster bar if that’s your thing.

Yep, rents still dropping. I’m now in a townhouse on the palm with a double garage for less than I used to pay for an apartment in jbr.

Hi - yep, I am still here. Great value in The Villa for the size of the places and current rents.

We bagged a place with a triple garage with electric doors no less! Woohoooo!

Rents are weird. If you look at decent 3-4 bed places in Dubai you pay roughly double what you would pay for the equivalent house (sorta) in Hampshire/Wiltshire border where we are. Yet if you go large, 6+ bedroom, large plot, probably ends up cheaper in dubai. Well it does in The Villa.
Has anyone had issues, that live in The Villa or Ranches 2 with street races? Apparently thu and fri night are noise fests if you happen to be in the wrong area.

Rents are a dream now if you remain employed. The supply is practically infinite so when we moved house this summer I almost ignored asking prices on the basis they would accept whatever I offered. When we found the place we wanted the owner agreed to our offer within two hours.

I moved back to Motorcity in July after 5 years in JVC. When we left Motorcity rent was 220K, now 135k for a 3 bedroom in the terraced apartments.

How much to rent were the larger places in The Villa?

they were always good value as there was very little development. i remember the first time i visited a mate there it was one road [well, track] in, one road out. the maturity of the development and new roads opening coincided with the general downturn.

re: street races, don't fall for curtain twitcher's stories. everyone is savvy to the dubai police app where you can report such behaviour and they will/do act on it. struggling to think where you could build up enough speed to race around there tbh.

It’s apparently on the new road D54 is it? Religiously between 1am and 3am Thu and Fri and somehow the cars are being allowed to congregate at Centro Spinneys.

Totally get what you’re saying about the curtain twitchers! I’ve told the wife to ignore Facebook on this one as we’ve signed the lease and removals men come Tuesday.

Anyone know any local car hire companies that are worth looking at for car hire cheaper than the usual suspects?

not Fussy really.

Wife lands 28th Oct with the wee ones so she’ll probably need something family friendly from 1st Nov until 18th Dec when we head back for Xmas.

I’d want something coupe ish. I’ve hired a Dodge Challenger v8 when I land (11th) for a week.
I’ll probably end up renting on an off for three months as I’m in and out like a fiddlers elbow.

Then I want to buy a xc60 and 6 series GC. But I keep changing my mind.

That's not bad. How do I get that rate? If I go on to their website it's 11,000aed.
