If you are a member of the Armed Forces, a Reservist or even a "veteran" and are interested in racing, have a look at this.

http://www.armedforcesracechallenge.net

4 races this season with then 750mc at Donington, Silverstone, Cadwell and Rockingham. 15 min practice a 45 min race with a pit stop and good value.l

No connection, apart from the fact that I may enter a couple of rounds as an ex Serviceman.

Their handicap system is very interesting and they have a good mix of cars on the grid usually.

I do find it funny that the AFC all sleep in tents in the garage and us non-military types retire to our Winnebago's. Plus at the drivers briefing the AFC team is lined up in a parade where as everyone else is late/can’t hear/pisses around etc.

Had a good dice with the RAF lot at the Birkett for a good few laps but lost out in the end (red BMW https://youtu.be/oxnIFFTx2hw?t=2m57s).

I used to race with the RAF Motorsports Association, despite my lack of wings, webbed feet, built-in-boots or any other military connection.
Just a friendly bunch, glad to take on my car which for Regs Reasons was without a series at the time.
If they are open to civilians, and anyone in is a similar position, I expect they will have the same outgoing attitude as the boys in sky blue.

John
Ps Did you know that the Services get PAID when they are engaged in this sort of activity? Almost makes you want to join up! J.

The RAF MSA race series morphed in to the Armed Forces Race Challenge Championship.

Teams from all 3 Services and a Veterans team to give some form of inter services team competition as well.

Salt of the earth those guys, and damn good looking too wink

It's actually an MSA championship this year too! It's the old RAFMSA series expanded to take in our green/dark blue colleagues. I'll be out in my Fiesta XR2i with a 2.0l Zetec in, #33

I guested with them last year too and the entry price is amazingly low, yet the organisation, hospitality and racing top notch. Also gives you the opportunity to double up in 750 roadsports over the same weekend. Current and ex-service folk are eligible for the championship, and guests race it as a series with individual class awards on the day - last season these were F1 car parts made into trophies. It's superb.

Pretty much invite only I'm afraid smile we've got over 40 registered competitors from all 3 Services, so (barring people deployed) we're expecting strong/full grids!

Out of interest what car would you be in?

Rockingham last year was my first ever race so hoping to do a full season thus year.
Hopefully will have a guest to one of the races as it'll be fun to race along side him.

Doing Brands on Monday and Oulton on the 24th to get my eye back in.

Will try and watch one of the meetings, would love to get involved but finances will never allow it for me unfortunately.

Are you in the military? If so let me know and I'll try to get some tickets sent to you for whichever race is convenient. As for the finances, no motorsport isn't ever cheap, but you might be surprised... there is a fair bit of support from individual Service sports boards, and we have people racing with us all the way from Mne/Pte/SAC upwards. You can pick up a car for probably £1500 ready to go...

And if you share a car, it can be done more cost effectively than many imagine.

If you are Navy then just do your ARDs, everything else can be provided at first.

Hello, yes I am serving in the Army. I shall have a look at the calender and get back to you, thanks.

If I'm honest the Ards (only ever got as far as buying the starter pack), kit/equipment and car probably isn't overly difficult to source, it's the £200-£300 + consumables per meeting that puts me off whilst having a mortgage and baby due on a lance jacks wage. Lol.

May look into it further however, and think coming to a race would help.

Are the RAF allowed to enter something for the Armed forces?
