I was also thinking about competing in the Club Enduro series with my M4.
However, after attending the race @ Oulton Park at the weekend, I'm not sure how fair the series is, with people running full blown TCR race cars against converted road cars. The time delta's were massive (3+ secs per lap) which means that if you don't have a TCR car, its unlikely you'll be able to compete for a place on the podium.
That doesn't mean it is un-fair. It means you need a car of equivalent performance to a TCR to compete. However, after attending the race @ Oulton Park at the weekend, I'm not sure how fair the series is, with people running full blown TCR race cars against converted road cars. They haven't won every race this year, which shows that they can be beaten.

I don't think that's a fair representation of the series though. There is a fair mix of machinery in Class A and although there are seemingly more and more TCR cars at each race, I don't think their pace is any quicker than the other top runners, and it's certainly not three seconds per lap. The Championship has been dominated by the Baker/Swift TCR car, but as a fellow competitor (who ran them pretty close for the overall title) I can tell you that they are two very good drivers in a very good and well organised team. They have won by being the most consistent team with good strategy and a fast car, that's exactly how it is supposed to be isn't it? If you have a well sorted M4, a decent pit crew and time your stops well, you would be right at the front (assuming you can drive of course )
I’d be surprised to see an M4 win regularly in CE.
There’s a sweet spot for power/weight racing and if you’re at the extra powerful or extra light end of the spectrum it’s always going to be against you.
I don’t disagree about the TCR issue but the fact is that if they were banned, a bunch of ex-road registered Golfs and Leons with the same spec would take their place.
And bmtamil1 is correct, Rob and his crew at Area have done a lot of things right in the last couple of years to be so successful.
I was also there on Saturday BTW, on the grid, and you shouldn’t be put off, it’s a great championship to be in.

I think an M4 could be competitive, but you are right about the extremes of power/weight. You see the same thing with the BSCS Lotus, probably the fastest thing on the grid, but too much of a battle to keep it running. There’s a sweet spot for power/weight racing and if you’re at the extra powerful or extra light end of the spectrum it’s always going to be against you.

You guys had a good race on Saturday. We (or more specifically I) somehow got picked up by the safety car so lost almost a lap on the two cars ahead of us, and then messed up the timing of our stop, so not our best result to date!
I don’t think the TCR cars are any faster than the other stuff in Class A but that doesn’t mean it isn’t unfair. The fact is they just don’t go wrong and are very easy to run in endurance racing.
It is supposed to be Club motorsport and running factory built race cars that have been specifically developed by manufacturers at a cost of millions to be reliable in endurance racing is not really in the spirit of the championship.
I don’t think they should be banned. As Steve says people will just buy a road shell and bolt on TCR bits instead. Judging by the fact there were 5 TCR cars in the Top 6 places at Oulton, it may make more sense to put them in their own class though.

Good idea, but I don't know if you have noticed, the Area cars are all described as EuroCup cars (which was the very first iteration of the idea). It is supposed to be Club motorsport and running factory built race cars that have been specifically developed by manufacturers at a cost of millions to be reliable in endurance racing is not really in the spirit of the championship.

I can't help wonder why that is.

I totally agree with the TCR cars being a different class. Having looked at the costs to run a car for a season being £20k+, you'd want a reasonable chance of success in return.indigorallye said:

750 regs only allow the earlier TCRs with DSG boxes I think, that may be the reason.I can't help wonder why that is.
I’m not sure a separate class is a good idea TBH, maybe a penalty like the ones give to teams with pro drivers or diesel engines?
