Are GoPro windscreen mounts legal in Hill Climbs?

We've got the cage mount for ours and had it on the harness bar for our first event last month but unfortunately it sits so low you can't see the track very well at all from the camera so another solution is needed.

Are the windscreen mounts acceptable at all? Or would some kind of suction mount on the bonnet be better and would it actually stay on?!

Check the blue book. I think they’re not allowed for rallies on an external mount.

Obviously hill climbs are different.

Could be ok, but it would need a secondary method of attachment.

I think this may be something that could vary between one event and another. That being the case then the SR's would be the place to check.

J5.21.5 The mounting of any camera must be specifically approved by the Chief Scrutineer. Any mountings must use a mechanical means of attachment sufficiently robust to withstand anticipated stresses and vibration and must not present any sharp edges or projections in the vicinity of the driver’s body or helmet. Where possible, a secondary means of attachment should also be used. Suction mounts are not acceptable as the primary mounting method. Where cameras are fitted by professional TV or film companies, the Chief Scrutineer has discretion to approve non- mechanical mountings

How far do you need to raise it by?

I had a similar problem with my GoPro fitted to a headrest mount, it was just a bit too low. I bought a pack of these...

Unlike normal GoPro extensions the top and bottom are in the same orientation as each other, so much better for this purpose. I use the middle length one and it works just as I'd hoped, changes the view just the right amount without any noticeable vibration.
