I'm considering selling one of my AMD Transponders (wired) and trying out a new Mylaps version.
The website informs that you are able to get live data at the track by using laptop or App.

Can anyone who has experience of these advise if they are worth switching to, and will they work at all UK tracks.

Regards

Alan

There was a thread about this a few months back. Worth a search smile

I bought a new MyLaps with a year's subscription. Much cheaper way in than the old ones. I did still buy a rechargeable one though - and the USB cable that came with it wouldn't charge it. Haven't found any of the online stuff to work.

Lost count of the number of people I've raced with over the last year who have had no end of problems with these new transponders refusing to activate on race day. Personally I'll stick with the old fashioned ones until they're obsolete. At least they work all year round with no need for keys and endless activation.

Everywhere I race has live timing streamed through TSL anyway so no need for extra. If it's not a race day it's not going to work unless the circuit has the system switched on and you have to pay for that at most test days.

Just to balance it out.

I’ve used a Mylaps transponder (permanently wired on a one year subscription) this year without any problems at all and competed in 4 race series with 3 different clubs that use use two different live timing systems between them.

We have used one this season and it worked all race weekends bar one. There is no way of course of knowing whether it is working until quali, then you have a scamper to work out how to connect and reactivate (or whatever is going on) before the race. It made no sense at all, just one weekend decided it didn't want to play. Horribly complex bit of kit if you ask me. Only Kirkistown uploaded the timing data to the mylaps web site.

Hey ho, I guess we are stuck with it!

I don't think I will buy one of the newer versions yet, and wait to see if they improve the product. Its a great shame that the Circuits don't help by not switching the transmission on, to enable the users to capture the timings.

I will see what Combe are doing this year, and speak to those using the new version at the circuit.

There is a reason the old wired transponders are changing hands for about £300.
