I'm looking for a bit of advice from all of the good racing people of PH.

Me and my dad are going to start our first season of hillclimb and sprint racing this year.

We have the car, kind of (A 2005 Ford Fiesta 150 ST)

I have the helmet

we are now looking at the race suits that you need.

I have looked on e-bay etc for second hand ones, not my first choice as a second hand one is around £150 and you can get a new one for about £200-£250.

I have looked on the normal websites, Demon Tweaks, Merlin Motorsports, YB Racing but wondering where the best place would be to get one.

Also if ordering online the sizing of them do they mean the sizes they say (34" trouser waste is it a 34" race suit waste or will I need to go up a size to take into account clothing underneath?)

Got mine from Demon Tweeks, not hard to work oir what size you'll need & you don't typically wear anything but a t shirt or similar under it.

Don't forget you also need gloves.

Where are you planning on competing?

I'll be selling my suit & gloves along with a Bell helmet bag as I very much doubt I'll be heading for the hills again in the forseeable future.

I've never paid full price for a suit, end of season sale, Demon Tweeks once give me a great discount on a white suit, which was great as I live in the tropics, my current suit was from marlin at castle combe bought at the end of the season.

That's exactly what my season should be, hope to see you at a few events. Keep checking eBay for cheaper suits, they do appear now and again.

You do get some good used ones on ebay or on forums. I rally but my suit come from msport and was a spare set from Marcus Gronholms Co driver that had never been used purchased on eBay . My sons was an ex f3 spare set purchased from a rally forum.

Check the standard and date on your helmet is ok. The price of secondhand race suits varies according to condition and size and £150 seems steep for secondhand.

I'd agree with that, I've bought 3 race suits from eBay, all 3 in really good condition and way cheaper than new, just steer clear of those that don't have a picture of the "patch".

I bought a new P1 suit from https://www.advantage-motorsport.co.uk/ at the Autosport show. I liked the price and the design, it makes a nice change from the usual Sparco suits. smile

I was in the same position a year ago. I ended up going to MSAR and tried on the suits, gloves and boots. I ended up buying different makes and models of everything based on fit/comfort than I would have bought through just looking online.

I spent a bit more than planned but I’m happy I have great quality, comfortable kit that’s going to last.

If you can get to a shop then I’d recommend it as time we’ll spent.

Sorry for butting in, but I’m also trying to decide on race suits. Mine will be for racing.

1. Should you go for 3 layer Nomex or are 2 layers fine?
2. What are you looking for when it comes to fireproof underwear?
3. Should you always wear fireproof underwear or just for 2 layer suits?

For me, you can't have enough protection so 3 layer and underwear.
