I now welcome to the fleet a lovely red mk1 Uno Turbo. This car is road registered but has been built for hill climbing, it's road reg due to the class it ran in (road going modified up to 2lt). Liam (the previous owner) has been very successful in this car and has an array of class wins as well as breaking one hill class record by 3sec and 400th of a second off another.

Spec is as follows:
  • Fiat Uno Turbo (re-shell) 1990 (G reg) Red
  • No rust!
  • Bolt in 6 point Safety Devices roll cage (powder coated satin black)
  • B&M quick shift
  • Brake bias controller
  • Bespoke 20l race fuel cell with built in swirlpot, fuel pump and filter
  • Braided fuel lines
  • Fully power flex polly bushed
  • Avo coilovers with up-rated LEDA springs on the front
  • Punto GT brakes
  • PGT flywheel and clutch
  • Rebuilt gearbox with altered ratios and shorter final drive
  • Quaife LSD
  • Cosworth intercooler (front mount)
  • Atmos dump valve
  • 13 row Mocal oil cooler
  • BMC carbon air box/filter with cold feed
  • TT PGT S1 turbo - Adjustable fuel pressure regulator.
I also got another shell which is registered as a Mk1 turbo and a load of spares.

It’s all stock internals and running on standard Mk2 EFI. All glass doors etc are standard currently due to the class it was run in. Car weight is around 810kg and has about 150fwhp.

Planning on running it with the Classic Sports Car Club next with a combination of Turbo Tin Tops, Future Classics and Modern Classics depending on the days & dates. I will be sharing the drive with my Son who turns 16 in December.

Upgrades planned over the winter include more power (can you ever have enough?), get the seat low, get smaller wheels and have it ride much lower. Depending on how it handles, IRS the rear.

Anyone got experience racing one of these? Would be interested to hear how the car was setup and how well it did.

Excellent little cars. I loved my mk2, although the budget for my first car wouldn't run to a turbo. I look forward to seeing it racing, think it might give some of the more modern Turbo Tin Tops a bit of a scare. smile

I had a tinkered with Punto GT which ran a VERY similar engine. Loved that car.

Your Uno looks awesome too, good luck with it.

Like Mr Fishy Dave, whom I saw at Thruxton last week , I had an Uno turbo - two in fact - and loved them . The weak point was the very Italian electrics and clutch cable which broke every10k miles. And the lack of traction in the wet - wheelspin in 1-4 . It was a hoot , engine a gem, and made 205GTi etc seem pedestrian . Until the twisty bits anyway ...! .
Speak to Patrick Watts, he raced the Uno Turbo in the 80s and did some serious giant killing too

Didn't have a Turbo, but used to race this n/a car in CSCC Tin Tops:

Awesome handling car and very light. Should have put a turbo engine in it.

Was eventually sold to Norway.
