Morning all,
I stumbled across an autotest event over the weekend and after some googling have decided I need to have a go at autosolo.
I live near Grimsby and have had a look at motorclubs but would like some suggestions or pointers about how to start, where to go and who to talk to.
Cheers in advance

Have a look at Beverley MC who do quite a few club Rally events, also York MC who do lots of Autotests.

Not many Autosolos in Yorkshire though.

Nearest ones I can see are Donington Park on the 24-11-18 and at Blackburn Services on the 2-12-18.
lots of information on the MSA website.

North Humberside MC are pretty active on the autotest front, not so sure about autosolos though.

York motor club have run an autotest taster event for the last two years. biggrin no need to even join the club to have go.

York also run a monthly autotest clubday event, a range of cars are used, from a boggo "daily driver" rover metro to some ballistic specials.

From my perspective the clubs aren't too tribal, I've done events with a about five different clubs this year, just means I have a envelope full of club cards!!

I'm in the York area and not aware that autosolo's are big in the area.

Trying to find out about getting into clubbie stuff like autotests, autosolos, targas and the like is not easy but some of us here on Pistonheads are doing our bestsmile

Some good starting points, thanks.
I only say Autosolo as they seem more beginner friendly but autotesting would be just as fun I'd imagine.. with some practice!?

I might pop down to the Donnington autosolos just to have a nose and a chat.
I've got a Seicento sporting with I reckon would be great for it, it's light and bullet proof!
It's a good excuse for some handbrake turns at the very least!

Yes the little Seicento would be a perfect starter car for Autotests and Autosolos.

You should also have a look at Targa Rallying which is, in its most basic form multi venue auto testing with a navigator pointing the way.

Personally I find the most frustrating thing about Autotest is remembering the route, I usually cock up a few and end up with too many maximums ( washouts as they are called) to be in with a chance of a decent result.

Also look at 12 Car Rallying, Beverley run a full season of 12 cars which are pretty competitive. Worth going out to Marshal to get a feel for it and make some aqaintences in the club scene.

Wingo.
Ray, we at Ilkley MC have had three tries at running a Nat B and club Aoutosolo, once at Sherburn and twice at Arkham Bryan college, each time we had very low entries, mostly our own regulars. We have given up on them for now.
I’m not sure if it’s the lack of good venues or what, yet we can get reasonable entries for Autotests and PCA’s, as can Airedale and Pennine.

Yep, not sure why autosolos have not taken off in the area. Many of the autotesters I see though are not using road legal cars or very modified cars, they get trailered to events so that rules them out of autosolos?

There are plenty of autotests though and many have tests that are not too complicated. I've done a couple of Ilkley autotests this year and really enjoyed them.

Some autotests have a class for cars where you are allowed to take a passenger to guide you round the tests if you have the memory of a goldfish. A good warm up for Targas.

Clubbie bargain motorsport is alive and well, the MSA permits for autotests are on the up according to the annual report.
some clubbie autotest action
