Thanks Coppice, definitely trying one of the others next season!

Spent many a Saturday night watching F1 Stockcars at the Long Eaton track. Race finishes, dive into the pits to see who was welding / hammering cars straight, then back up the banking to watch the next heat.Next on the list for persuasion is an evening at one of the Brisca meets...

There may have been a few pootling but no doubt some were pressing on. The thing is a Ferrari will never live with a race spec saloon or sports car around a hillclimb because it's too heavy, let alone a single seater. Add to that the power and noise and lack of weight of a racer and everything else looks slow...The big single seaters are circa 1200 bhp per ton + and doing 0 - 115 mph in 4 seconds...??
I will rephrase this for you, The Ferrari's at Harewood where not being driven to their full potential. (I Have been around speed events long enough to know how cars are classed and the noise (and or lack of it) some make) I have little doubt the drivers enjoyed themselves (and that is the main thing really) and when you have that much invested in a car then you don't really want to damage it. Indeed/understood. I too would be driving a bit gingerly in something that valuable that needed driving home after the event! No doubt it felt much quicker than it looked for the drivers and sure they enjoyed it. Lovely cars and great to have them there..

And one has to admire the lovely gent, no longer in the first flush of youth , in his 50 year old, million quid's worth of Ferrari 275GTS. It is no F458 in performance , obviously , but to see an example of the definitive Maranello V12 , wheel-spinning off the line , is very special .
In the first instance I'd have a look at something like this, and just get your finger out and have a bash!

I contest a 1975 Dolomite Sprint in the TR Register series and the Classic Marques Speed Challenge which obviously I need a specific car to take part in, but the above series caters for anything from bog standard cars onwards and appears at venues all over the country.
Really, you have no excuse, get on with it!

OP, this coming weekend at Prescott is a good one to come spectate at, lots of stands too for the OH. Classic Marques are there Saturday too, think about 35 of us are scattered around the classes.
I find myself mid CSCC meeting at Oulton on Sunday - action on Sat and Mon - and as I am staying over there to avoid the 300mile round trip home I was thinking about Prescott . Still a fair run , but through a part of the country I don't know well, and finally to see Prescott. I have been to Harewood and Barbon for decades , Shelsley for the first time in 2017 (loved it ) so Prescott it is. Any hints ?
Hi
Prescott is lovely, a complete hidden gem of the countries motorsport scene - really nice place to be, well worth a day out.
I'd firstly suggest getting there early (I do the Cheshire to Gotherington run a bit..) I'd go first thing Sunday morning (M6, M5 - not pretty but quick at that time of day) and by 9 I'd be in the club house (really excellent..) having breakfast.
It's a very compact venue, so getting around is really easy, the most popular place to watch is the inside of Orchard corner (the first left hander) but personally I'd suggest going a bit further up to Ettores, it's a good view watching them anchor up.. the other place that's nice is the seating in between Pardon and the Esses.
But you can wander round it easily and it's worth the effort doing so..
Coming back the M5/M6 can be a right PITA, if I wasn't in a rush - and I often go this route - I'd suggest, off at M5 J6, head towards Kidderminster, but turn off at Ombersley and country lanes to Bewdley, then more lanes and B roads to Bridgenorth, A442 for a bit, then B roads to Shifnal, and onto Newport, then A41 & A49 to Little Budworth
It's not quick (but then neither is the M5 & M6 on a Sunday evening!), but it's a nice run with lots of nice places to stop for a bit of dinner etc..

Well- I am no longer a Prescott virgin . Adored it - gorgeous setting, delightful people and marvellously eccentric cars and people. Like me , few over 25 seemed to take much notice of the various modern Bugattis (looked hideous , sounded like vacuum cleaners ) but couldn't get enough of Type 35 and ERA porn . And - gosh - a Panhard 24 CT (I think ?) and a sublime Fiat 2300S Coupe .
Just like I found Shelsley . the hill itself is ok , very pretty but not a match for the view from the top of Harewood , where you can track a car all the way up , but the ambience and palpable sense of history more than make up for it .
And VSCC Harewood this weekend I think
