We've booked a family holiday to Finland next summer and by complete chance it looks like we should be there at the same time as the Rally. Staying about 1 1/2 hours south of rally stages near Lahti.

Due to timings it looks like I'll only be able to get there for the final day, Does anyone know if you can buy tickets on the day? as I can only see 4 day passes available online?

also is it a well organised event and can you generally find you way to decent viewing areas without too much prior knowledge?

any other tips welcome.

Was about to tell you about my trips to the 1000 Lakes but then realised I last went in 1991!

My over riding memory was how insanely busy it was.....litterally tens of thousands of people everywhere, no matter how remote. I'm sure someone will be along shortly with more up to date info, but the above should get you started.....

Good job I'm such an uncommonly able genius when it comes to the interweb wink

I went in 2015 with some Finnish friends. Incredible experience - you’ll love it! I wrote a detailed account of the weekend: http://www.motorcardiaries.co.uk/2015/rally-finlan...

I’m not sure re passes. Our pals bought full rally passes and a programme in Helsinki a few weeks before the event. I can’t remember whether you could get single-stage passes on the day to be honest. You certainly can for Wales Rally GB.

We had little knowledge of the stages, except that we wanted to see the Yellow House jump. We always found good spectating without a problem - just walked the stage until we found somewhere good. Most of the forests are full of delicious blueberries growing wild so make sure you try a few while you’re finding a pitch!

It’s much like watching road racing: get there super early, pack provisions (inc insect repellent if near water) and enjoy some banter with the locals.

Thanks for the replies

Just need to persuade the rest of the family its a good idea now, she's done well so far this year as she also book a trip to Barcelona that clashes with the last day of pre season F1 testing.
