Anyone out on The Exmoor this weekend?

Managed to get the Saxo dampers sorted with some Peugeot Sport Gravel fronts and some rebuilt Gaz Gold on the rear.

Have also been acquiring a few other bits as they come up so the car is evolving nicely. A Brantz trip, a 4-1 manifold and The flocked dash was a particularly lucky buy. Worth a good three seconds a mile that.

Just need the thing up and running now as the ECU has fried itself. Forgot how stressful and time consuming motorsport can be sometimes.

Yoko A035's are a good compromise, have used them on dry/wet tarmac, gravel and dry/wet concrete with no grip issues. They were excellent on last weekends MDMC targa at Twyford, especially enjoyed handbraking around the cones !

Really disappointed to see that the MSA have increased the fee for a 2020 Non-Race Nat B license (the type needed to co-drive within the main field on a Targa / road event) to £69 (it was £45 this year)

Given that I only compete on a few events a year maximum that's me priced out now, it's simply not worth spending that amount on the offchance I might compete.

To add insult to injury the envelope full of (expensively produced) guff that came with the renewal pack had the temerity to try and suggest that the fee increases were "modest" don't think I call more than 50% "modest"

There is another thread going about this.
But just to say it is quite possible that Targa and Road Rallies will start using a Clubman permit rather than the interclub.
If they do ( and many Targa already do) then you would only need the Clubman RS free licence.

The issue revolves around the ability for a clubman event to form part of a championship.

As an organiser I have questioned this directly with MSUk and awaiting an answer.

Just to follow this up I have not had a reply from MSUK yet, but I have had an email from the championship coordinator for the HRCR Historic Road Rally championship, this is confirming that a Clubman RS licence can be used for events in that championship.

These were previously national B, so this is a good thing as it mean you don’t automatically need an Interclub licence at £69.00.

This potentially could also open up the way for a National Targa Rally championship if there was an appetite for it.

A lot hinges on whether a Clubman status event can invite other clubs, I’ve not seen that confirmed in writing by MSUK yet.

Also whether those entering on a Clubman license will be classified within the main event, when Road Rallying was more popular a decade or so ago the Clubmen used to run at the back of the field and weren't eligible for inclusion in the main results.

Either way, 50% + price hike for the a license doesn't strike me as "supporting grass roots motorsport" or "encouraging newcomers"

I think he has retracted that.

Yes it was retracted the day after, so it’s basically the same as last year for championship events, only the Interclub licence rather than a Nat B, with a 55% hike in cost.
Clubman status events will need an RS licence.
Still not clear if you can invite other clubs or not to a clubman event, some were doing that last year, but it wasn’t technically allowed.

Bustard targa and the Barbara Carter road rally this Saturday
Some lucky people get to do both.

I am driving the BC as a short notice stand in. Looking forward to it.

I'm out on both the Bustard and BC too. Looking forward to the challenge of trying to stay awake and sharp for 24 hours and 170+ miles of rallying across the two events!

Car 47 on the Bustard and 45 on the BC.

I’m not out on the Bustard this year, but will be out to play on Saturday night running at car 3 on the BC, give us a wave when you see us in a hedge or broken down somewhere!

Good to see entries on the rise for south west events at the moment with a full entry list for the Bagger in January too.

Last event of the season completed for me.

And it was a monster.... HERO's legendary Le Jog, ticked off the bucket list. It really was a brilliant event and a fantastic experience.

I competed with an Australian chap (Peter Wescott) and whilst we should have been in a category three, 1974 Mitsubishi Gallant, we actually ended up in a category four Austin Metro Vanden Plas (the paperwork failed to come through from DVLA for the Gallant.) The Metro was borrowed from Owen Turner and apart from the Brantz clock and trip was totally box standard!.

Competing in the Metro whilst a bit worrying at first actually turned out to be great fun, we got a lot of good will from the Marshals and the public and i think we shocked a few people when we caught and passed them. Peter drove it like a man possessed!. But we were never going to match the quick boys in the Golfs GTI's on the tests and ended up dropping loads of medal standards as these are based upon the category of the car. tyring to saty on our minute on the Welsh road rally bit was a challenge too !.

Our main target was to get all the controls and secret checks and stay more or less on time, we did this and gained a prestigious Blue Riband medal. Out of the 85 starters only 22 managed it.

With the category 3 Gallant and assuming the same performance, we would have a comfortable Silver medal, it was a much easier class.

If you're hoping for a Le JoG medal, you need to think carefully about what category to go for - cat 4 gets tougher every year ! Loved seeing the Metro.

Yes I realise that, I was pretty optimistic when I saw the final entry list, but when Gallant was sidelined it was Hobson’s choice. I knew we had no hope of a medal in Cat 4. I don’t think the category split was very fair actually, they altered it a week before bringing the cut off date down from 1980 to 1975, I really don’t know why.
There was a bit of an upset about the Mk2 RS2000, they were moved from 3 to 4 following a protest, losing a probably silver. I could have reasonably argued the Metro was the spec of a pre 80 Car, but not pre 75...... I did try!.

Thanks for Marshalling, where abouts were you?

Moving an entry from one class to another mid-event was a very poor decision IMV, and caused a lot of resentment in class 8. I wasn't marshalling, I was in class 9 (mostly Porsches) and also just missed out on a medal.
