Wearside Targa for us this Sunday. Swapping seats with the lad on his Targa driving debut in the trumpet V8. 
Also doing the Stocktonian but back in our usual seats for that one.
Three clubbie autotests in September as well before organising an autotest in October.
Probably can't fit in some of our favourite events, the Doonhamer and and the Solway.

Vale of Clwyd was tough as usual, some of the tests were a bit rough for the Mini and were veeerrry slow..... trying to protect the Car. I had issues with a strange clock too, which wasn’t ideal for regularity. Ended up 27th overall, which was OK ish.
It was good to see MSUK chairman and ex world champion Dave Richards out competing, with another ex world champion, Phill Mills. Even better to beat them.....

The lads driving was better than my navigating on the Wearside!!
He was driving pretty well seeing as he hadn't driven the car more than a handful of miles and done two 360s on a loose surface to experience the effects of a good push on the righthand pedal.
Got to test 15, one of the longest on the event then I messed up near the end and we got a wrong test, dropped us from 2nd to 4th in the classics section. Still got a pot for a class win though. Certainly got a better appreciation now for how hard a nav has to work at their craft even on some targa tests.
The lad enjoyed his first car event at the wheel of something rear wheel drive, despite the novice targa navigator!!
A few other family crews out, and youngsters having a go in either the navigators seat or at the wheel if they had a driving licence.
Proper clubbie motorsport, lunch and dinner at the finish included with the entry fee. No road miles as all within the confines of the Nissan complex.
Great day out, 15 Mx5s on the entry list, quite a few 100% standard road cars (non Mx5s) enjoying the fun in the non classic targa classes.
Back home for 7pm to watch world rallycross on the box.

We only did one wrong test - MrsSE saved us from a couple where I decided I couldn't tell left from right, so she slammed the anchors on and did a quick reverse!
Only one "moment" too, where the Mazda decided it wanted to go and play with the lineup of new Nissans. I looked up from my notes and was like "that didn't feel like a 90 lef- errrrrr"

Good to see this thread coming back to life, some good events coming up over the next few months. I've managed to get an entry on a couple of events on my doorstep, the Exmoor and Barbara Carter in October / November.
Few jobs to do on the car first to get it ready for some rougher events, including sorting out some decent dampers.

A mate had a bit of a saga with the suspension on his newly acquired saxo, trying to get a sensible ride height at the front. He went for Avo coilovers with adjustable platforms IIRC but had some trouble getting some springs to suit what he wanted. I never got the full story but I don't think he spent a fortune in the end.
The rear is easy, just adjust the torsion bars. As long as all the bars and bolts are not seized up.
On an Ax I used standard front strut bodies off a 106 (same as saxo?) I think, fitted some "gravel" spec from springs from e(vil)bay and used some cheap brand bilstein inserts again sourced from e(vil)bay. Luckily all went together Ok and then I just had the rear ride height set to compliment the front ride height.
Trouble with Saxos is that everyone is trying to lower them "bruv" you are swimming against the tide going up rather than down

Well after a year out I am finally getting back onto the tests, I got abit carried away when looking to buy a pre-prepped car and ended up with this:
Wingo, I fear I may have some questions for you in the near future...
Sadly I don't know if I will have the car how i want it or a navigator for the bullnose, so I have offered to nav for another chap to get back into things.
I'm glad to see a few more targas pop up around the midlands though.

I saw that AX on the bay, was tempted to go for it, but two AXs is maybe a step too far. It looked ok from the pics. For the money it looks great value.
They are great little cars, but, made from plastic and biscuit tins, so go well even with an 8v 1360 engine.
Ours is a GTi, so on injection great fun to drive, we were out on an autotest in it in Wednesday night. We haven't used it on a targa although it's not too far away prep wise, a big upright hydraulic hand brake might not get a thumbs up from the scrutineers though.
Enjoy, it should be very competitive if there is an up to 1400 class.

I was going to try Nankang NS2 (not the NS2R as that's also list 1b), but open to suggestions!

We used Khumo V70A, but that was on tar and the occasional white, not sure what would suit the Targa's.But what make and model?

I think we had some Hankook knobblies at one point too, can't remember what those were.
