good choice in basing the race KA on the newest one you could find. More inbuilt inherent reliability. Knackered old nails do not rule.

Super - what a result! Entertaining read as well. Oh and the livery looks ace! Looking forward to more coverage of the mighty Ka smile.

The winner was built from a 53 plate car, certainly not one of the last or indeed an knackered old nail either

Well done, great effort and write up. I think we saw the car practicing on the Friday...we were providing the rolling MX-5 chicane for the Radicals 🙂

That’s actually a bit scary, I wonder if the organisers will alter the rules and have you all run a known alloy brand

He was known for good strategy calls in his days on the pit wall.

our second car had a steel wheel completely fail sending us into the gravel at Redgate.

Did it take any damage before hand? Seems pretty unusual for a steel. I think of lightweight alloys failing not mass produced steels...
Nope, it had only done 4 or 5 laps after it was changed on the last pitstop. The driver afterwards reported that the car felt odd when that wheel went on. It was fitted to the nearside front which was taking the most punishment . When the scrutineer examined the car after it was recovered, he found the center of the wheel still attached to the hub with the four bolts done up to the correct torque
Hope said scrutineer’s report feeds back to the championship organisers, wheels shouldn’t fail like that.

No reason why they can’t allow alloys - subject to a minimum weight in case they’re worried about someone forking out hundreds on something exotic to save a couple of kilos of unsprung.

Steelies in C1's fail every so often too. Was there any contact or kerb hopping?
No contact and fairly sure no kerb hopping as that wheel only did a few laps. But then not everyone had issues although we did get a wheel develop cracks in testing as did a few others. We did C1's also last year and had a few buckled steel rims. They sure are quite soft but then again their not designed for racing. Hope the organisers take note and allow alloys to be used.
C1's tend to see it on tracks with big kerbs and older wheels, we have been given an alloy wheel option to use, trouble is it is a horrible, horrible design but needs must because it is a weight save of 1kg a corner!

The KA guys have sorted out something as well on a mandated alloy that will shortly be available from Graves Motorsport, no word on style or weight yet but the first 200 wheels will be available late June, after the 12hr race, not ideal either.

Snetts is just down the road from me. Might have to pop over in June and say hi. Well done.
I'm a serial offender for watching the racing (cars and bikes) at nearby Snett, but no way do I want spend money to watch 12 hours of Kas crawling around such a high speed and technically complex circuit. Think I'll go to the dentist and have some root canal treatment instead.

(But well done anyway Team PistonHeads clap)
Can't help but feel you could have just said well done and left the other rubbish out, the top 5 for the first couple of hours were separated by 0.5 of a second, you realise how close that is right?

I am no Ross Brawn but that has to be probably the nicest comparison ever made about me hehe

See above they will be mandating a solution.

Hopefully they look like that, they are pretty smart and similar to the standard KA alloy you could have. Also muuuuch better looking than the ones we will use on the C1..

Yep those are the wheels, we had a go in their car at Brands on them. Same tyres but slightly wider wheel so more grip. We were confused at first as they do look exactly like the Ford minilites that were on our KA when we bought it!

Well said geeks. Having spent waaaaaaay too many days of my life at Snet I can confirm that some of the happiest were spent watching the Willhire 24hrs, where many of the cars were probably not much faster than the Ka's. And this would only be half as long smile

Yes surprisingly I do know how close 0.5 of a second is Mr Bloody Know It All: According to TSL, you're the one who needs to stop making it up and talking rubbish:

They look like the RMD wheels that Rally Design sell.
