Hi all hopefully easy question,, I’ve just this week completed my Nat b ards and have licence on route, stupidly I assumed they were valid yearly from when you apply but notice it’s jan to jan so need to renew for next year.

My plan is to get my car sorted/built as always my intention to race as of next season just really wanted to get the test etc done this year before buying all the relevant safety equipment.

Is it just a case of paying a renewal fee come December? So no test/medical again? As will have no proof of competing this year.

Thanks in advance

Yes. You can even skip a few years without renewing (not sure how many, at least three I think) before you have to redo the test.

If you've had the medical done this year and you renew before the end of the year then you won't need another one. If you don't renew until next year then you will have to get another medical done.

You can get away with a medical every two years if you get the medical in January (or later) and then renew in December (or earlier).

There's no problem with not actually racing for a couple of years or so but that might change in the future as I noticed the form now has a section that asks how many races you have done.

Refreshing the medical only applies if you are over 45.....doesn't it?

Yes, if it's a national license, apart from certain medical conditions but as the OP mentioned having a medical I assumed he was in the group that needed one. It's a self declaration rather than a medical otherwise as far as I know but it's been a long time since I was under 45...

My License isn't Uk so I just get a no objection letter from the MSA, for local authority, but I am over 45,the rule that applies to me changed a few years ago it was that you needed a medical/stress test, dated within 2 years of the test application, so you could get 3 years by delaying the first application late and making the third early in the year, then a clarification was issued so the medical has to be in the year or the preceding year of the application.
