I don't really get the no over night stay over.......it's safer than driving 3 or 4 hrs to a circuit, racing all day then the same 3 or 4 hrs home.....plus anyone stopping over will usually have a motorhome with its own shower & toilet.

Have I missed something?
I imagine that'll change.

It’ll be because of the Government’s current guidance stating day trips only. Until that changes, there will be no overnight stays.

From what I understand the intention is, whilst there is likely to be 2 day meetings. series will practice and race on the same day, Then another series will do the same on the following day.

Which may be "fine" for the drivers, but not sure what happens regarding officials, medics and rescue etc for a 2 day meeting. Marshals they may look at changing each day if they have enough to do it.

It’s not fine for drivers, as Roddo has pointed out that would involve a 2-3 hour drive to get to a circuit for about 0730 in the morning in time to unpack and get ready for whatever admin is required and qualifying; race in the afternoon and then pack up for another 2-3 hour drive home. Again, as pointed out that isn’t safe either.
I live one mile from Donington so would obviously do that and Mallory. I might do Silverstone (1 1/2 hours drive away) but wouldn’t do Oulton or Caldwell for eg.

I am not sure about “most people having a Motorhome” either. Plenty do, but not most. Some use B&Bs or Travel lodge so those need to be open, some camp, and some sleep in the back of a covered trailer (I did for the last couple of seasons, until I joined the m/h set about 3 weeks before lock down! Doh!)

Andy obviously the travel lodge B&B guys are not on site (yes I know they are closed) so they are another story......staying 'on site' in a self contained MH shouldn't be an issue......

fk.......just think about it.........all the drivers will be sober🤔 That'll be a first!

Yes but only half the amount of permits to be issued compared to normal, ie half the amount of events, to reduce pressure on marshals and officials numbers. No national series until 1 August either.
All subject to Government guidelines.
And, we don’t know whether we will be allowed to do overnight stays yet.
testing rules for this week and near future state no overnight camping, on or near the facility. I don't think camping will be allowed until next year. No big deal and probably a winner as it means that if you are doing 2 races they both have to be on the same day. Also you'd have to be pretty committed to travel to test on the Friday, disappear and then come back Saturday. So maybe a more even playing field,
It’s a big deal if you live in Carlisle!
Too fking right!!! Everywhere other than Croft is at least a 7 hour round trip for me.

Hence why I put my fine comment in speech marks. I am well aware of how far some competitors travel to attend meetings. I have spent enough time with many a driver/team at hosterlies near(not so near circuits) to know about "making a weekend of it"

here's the thing though. I used to camp at circuits - definitely not pleasant in Mar/Apr, October.
I used to get a B&B or similar - expensive!
I occasionally stay at relatives houses - not always available, but usually relaxed enough
I drive to circuits less than 2 hours away, which for me is, Donington, Mallory, Silverstone, Combe, Thruxton, Brands.

I prefer to drive in on the morning (although as I am late to arrive I end up miles away from the rest of the championship), I find I do not sleep very well in a tent, not very well for the first night in a hotel, reasonable but not brilliant at a relatives house. And when in my own bed I am up at 5 anyway due to excitement, so I may as well get in the car and drive to the circuit.

if I have a incident free day I can normally get 30 mins kip in the tow barge.

So I don't really mind the fact you can't camp - it gives me an advantage and does not reduce my sleeping hours. hehe

Still missing the point that is northerners (or extreme Southwesterners) realistically can’t do this in a single day!

Just shows that there will be a large number of competitors that won't be able to do some events. Central venues are clearly going to be much more popular. Castle Combe has just committed to running its own series, keep everything "local".

Personally I think the higher profile championships will get first dibs on the likes of Donington, oulton, silverstone & brands etc and we minions will get Pembrey etc......

Pembrey for me like many others is an 8hr drive.
Will I go? Of course I will .......the day before and park in a pub carpark, don't think they will mind!

I just won't bother racing this year and hopefully there's some sort of normality next year. Way too much hassle with the new guidelines for a hobby.

Ditto, I’m half hour from Combe but with a car that isn’t eligible for the home grown series which is why I have a car transporter/motor home for the long drags North or East. Thruxton, possibly Pembrey, are the only circuits I would entertain travelling and racing on the same day.

I can’t think of a better way to self isolate than in my own motor home with my own facilities confused

Looks like pub carparks it is!

CSCC sending out very positive emails about their late July meeting planned for Thruxton. Looks like things will really get moving. Shelsey Walsh also planning a hillclimb event for the same weekend.

Things are looking up.

I was out for testing at Brands yesterday. It was a good day, with everything working pretty much as you would expect.

Not too many there so plenty of space, and everyone seemed to be managing ok. No drama on track really, just the fella who got his trailer stuck in the out tunnel for a while!

Big mix of cars there too, a couple of Mini Miglia right up to a 488 Challenge Ferrari. A good day I’d say, although I’m hoping the track was slow as I was well off the pace!

We was also at Brands on Friday. I was in the Yellow TVR Cerbera GT. What were you guys driving.

Thought the day felt like any normal test day and worked well. Was great to do something normal again!
