MSV have been quite careful to call spectators visitors. I'm wondering if there is a slight difference in the definition regarding MSUK permits, insurance and so on.

I went to Thruxton on Sunday and was impressed with the controls put in place. It was a good meeting. I have also attended Brands Hatch twice first on 12th July for an HSCC meeting and then again on 2nd August for a BARC meeting. Both with excellent controls for spectators. I do feel that during this unprecedented time we are lucky to be able to enjoy our sport. I have also competed in 2 sprints and again was pleased with the controls put in place by the organising clubs.

Thruxton will be having spectators this weekend too - I'm going with a mate.

It'll be good to go to a race meeting at last, as most years we would have been to several by now!

Tickets must be pre-purchased, grandstands will be closed and there will be no paddock access but it's still a race meeting!

Although as he knows one of the guys competing it's a shame about the paddock restriction.

Well we went on Sunday and apart from the rain when we arrived we had a great day out - at last!

The guy my mate knew (Ed Giddings) got 2nd in Class in his 1st race and 1st in the second one in his BMW Z4.

There was a big grid for the BMW Compact Cup too which got pretty feisty!

A couple more Caterham races than we would have liked, but it was just good to be able to have a trip to a race meeting.

Everything was well organised, but catering was pretty limited so it was lucky we took our own!

Hi all - I'm sprinting at Snett on the 100 this weekend and I wondered if anybody knows where spectators can get to? It looks from MSV's map as if Tyrell's Café is off-limits along with the play area and grandstand behind the café - is that right? (my son's five btw!)

I should have asked MSV, but I've left it a bit late as tickets go off sale at lunch tomorrow so I'm hoping some late night PH'ers may have the answer for me!

Don't know how much access you will get, as the 2CV 24 hours race is on as well

I suspect it will be extremely limited for the sprint as spectators aren't allowed in the paddock areas, which takes up pretty much the whole area around the 100 circuit access to viewing. I'd give them a call in the morning if i were you.

Thanks both - I’ll try and find time to call later if I can (annoyingly got meetings all morning). From the map I have seen everything is basically cordoned off and the two paddocks (because yes, there is a 2CV race on as well) will be fairly strictly segregated too. We’ll even have our own food van so not sure that even I will be able to get into the cafe.

To square the circle and answer my own question: At Snett the public can't really get beyond the food van that's situated by the toilets that are at the beginning of the start finish straight. The paddock has security preventing access, so viewing is confined to the Northern half of the circuit really - the hill by Agostini, the grandstand by Bombhole etc.

At the moment Snetterton paddock is off limits at moment which means the specator banking for Riches, Palmer and the top end of the circuit is also closed. The Agostini banking is usually open, plus everywhere else - so you can walk all the way up to Wilson/Montreal/Sear in one direction, or most of the way to Riches in the other direction.

Just had an email from MSUK.
Masks at all times within the venue.
If you are exempt from mask wearing then you are effectively banned from motorsport.

Just cancelled my racing for the rest of the year.

At least the event is still running, i was due in Spa, that's been cancelled.
It's st right now but not a lot we can do about it.
Thanks to the marshals and organisers who are still turning out despite this rubbish situation.

Surely if you can wear a Balaclava then wearing a mask won’t be much trouble?

I warned about this above. Knockhill did it last month. I raised a query about it but the response I got felt like they thought I was some sort of anti-masker simpleton, they didn't even ask if I had a reason. I have a genuine exemption, but I don't wish to discuss it in any way with anyone. I am going to race over the weekend and will try to make it work with the mask, but am expecting to have to leave early and if so I'm possibly finished with motorsport.

Would it help you if you left the venue for some unmasked time to recover for a while during down time?

and this is the problem, people questioning and second guessing. FYI, I don't wear a balaclava, its not a requirement for UK motorsport.
It is for certain types, but I take your about the the lack of certainty

Finishing with motorsport over this is a bit extreme! By all means stop competing until it goes back to normal but that sounds like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Which may be why you can’t wear a mask
