We are running NS-2R in 180 compound (mandated) in our primary series but are branching out and have a bit more freedom for a secondary series.

Looking at all options but the car works fairly well on the tyre, though the 180 compound is very hard and is difficult to warm up in the cold or mild conditions.

Has anyone any experience of using the 100 compound NS-2R? Is it quicker than the 180 compound. The contact surface is still the same, but does the (much?) softer compound make a difference.

Does anyone know how the 100 compound and the 180 compound relates to the compound of say A052s or AR-1 or DZ03Gs?

The 100 compound is still nowhere near as good as a proper semi slick like the AR-1 or A052.

Decent in the wet though.

Also the 100 compound isn’t available in many sizes, from memory.

As above, they aren’t the right option if you have a choice.

Agreed, decent for what they are and what they cost but not comparable to the usual suspects as mentioned.

f.y.i. an extract below from an email from Nankang UK below regarding compound capabilities when I was enquiring a year or so ago :

"The NS-2R is designed to be a fast road / track tyre so wet capabilities
were priority when designing the tyre. The compound differences and characteristics are as below:

180 - a very compliant compound that works well in dry / wet etc, It can
take a lap or so to warm up however will provide grip needed for the
endurance of your race


120 - the compound is no 'softer' than the 180 however characteristics are
very different. It warms up very fast from the get go, built for sprint
racing more than endurance


100 - the newest compound in the NS-2R range, softer than the other
compounds. Designed to give you optimum grip from the get go however still
provide the longevity needed to finish a race


The number relates to the tread wear rating, the 80 / 100 ratings are the
same compound however they work out at different tread wear ratings because
of the sizes.

cant help on the ns-2r but if its any use really rate the AR1, much better than the r888r in terms of grip and staying power ( 18" on a 950kg tuscan) the r888r would go off over a 20min race the ar1 much more consistent over 40 mins

Not aware compound choice still exists in NS-2R.
