I’ve got a 270R race car that still has the old non compliant fire extinguisher setup. I’m going to change the system myself but I can’t find any details about where the spray nozzles are fitted on the new system.

Would someone mind posting some photos of the new nozzle locations on their Caterham please? (And the location of the secondary pull handle on the outside of the car)

I'm awaiting delivery of a 2022 compliant system to fit in our classic race Mini. Advice from Cscc is that the manufacturer will supply guidance - Installation Instructions - for their specific systems whether they be foam or gas. From manufacturers spec on advert they show 4 engine outlets and two in the cockpit.

Apparently an internal ( driver operated) pull handle is now mandatory as well as an external one.

I think the number of nozzles depends on the make and type of extinguisher installed, mine is a foam Lifeline with 4 nozzles in the the engine bay and 4 in the cockpit, some makes have 3 and 3 or 4 and 3 etc. I think the only guidance is follow manufactures instructions and if the scrutes don’t like the install refer them to the MI’s.

Did this job a few months ago. Put new unit in boot and followed same route along top of the tunnel for pipes. But didn't bother going above gearbox and using tunnel to get into the engine bay. Instead, I used the two bulkhead adapters that came with the kit to go through the bulkhead, negating the need for the tricky last bit of the run. Pretty easy. Let me know if you need more info.

My top tip is to ignore what anyone tells you and speak to your championship scruitineer. Get it in writing and have it printed for future scrutineering.

The way caterham fit them isn't actually in line with how the manufacture intended (according to some scrutineers....) so don't take anything as gospel. The photos above look very different to how I've seen the caterham factory fitted ones.

The outside pull needs to go next to your electrical cut off switch. Caterham sell an extended 'eyebrow' as it will need protecting on the side of the car. some cars have this mounted in the middle of the scuttle pannel, personaly dont like that as I don't want to ask a marshal to lean over a car on fire to pull it, but some scrutineers seem to accept this. Don't forget you need to use the apropriate stickers to mark the locations too

I would say that was a bottom tip.

The way the MUK swerve any decisions on this is laughable, 'follow the manufacturer install instructions' is the only advice you will get. Best to keep those instructions to hand if you are challenged by a scrut.

Find your system through the homologation number, and then fit it as per the manufacturer guidelines.
Print off the FIA document too and keep it with your race gear, ready to hand to the scrutineer.
