Hi all,

Building a car for CSCC Mag 7’s and the roll cage from the kit supplier is not homologated. Struggling with the bluebook, is this an issue for UK motorsport or not?

Cheers
Sam

The term 'homologation' usually means for FIA events (international events usually). For Mag7s I imagine the specification required for the cages is listed in the regulations, but your supplier/manufacturer should be able to advise whether it's built to MotorsportUK required specification.

Not an issue as long as it meets the regs set out by MSUK if you want to use it in the UK. If you want to use it internationally it must meet the FIA’s regs, this is also the case for some UK organised race meetings at foreign tracks such as Spa. It does not need FIA or MSUK homologation in either case. If it’s made of T45 it’s a bit more complicated.

Does the supplier say it is suitable for motorsport?

Thanks for this, really helpful.
So it’s a safety devices cage so I am not worried on the provenance.
But good to know that I’m not bound by any homologations - considering most of the CSCC trips abroad with the car would likely out value it, I’m happy on UK circuits! smile

It is worth checking it meets the regs even if it is from Safety Devices as the regs changed a few years ago and people are still getting caught out with too small a diameter tubes. Just give them a ring.

For MSUK events the ROPS would either need to be of a homologated design or if not the tube diameters, thicknesses and design of the cage will need to comply with the dimensions and drawings in section S of the competing year yearbook.

Speak to Safety Devices and ask their advice. And speak to the CSCC staff at the office, they are very helpful. Ask for David or Hugo - if they don’t know the answer they will put you in touch with someone who will. It’s an easy phone call.

Peter French is the driver rep for Mag7s. He’s also did some scrutineering for other series last season. Very knowledgable and approachable, if you drop him a line and arrange a chat.

His email is posted on the series webpage, so I don’t suppose he’d mind me reposting it here petercfrench@aol.com
