We haven't changed our battery in 6 months.

I like the questions though, Guys. It double checks our 'Have we thought of everything' mentality !

It's appreciated smile
Well, other than the cheap arsed relay I/O connector it looks ok to me laugh

ETA: Is there any status "feedback" on the handwheel assy? i.e. can you tell if a channel is on or off by looking at it? (illuminated buttons etc?)

You wouldn't need to show a status light on the panel, as It's designed to wire into your existing fuse box and loom.

So when you activate something, your dash indicator would illuminate (assuming you have one for it), telling you that it's on or not.

If you don't have a dash light for what you want to switch, maybe an ECU map or similar, you'll need to put a dash indicator inline with the relay.

We looked into it many moons ago, but you head into a world of constant communication and status checking against the relay states and a battery life of about a day biggrin

Hope that helps.

The Raptor unit is a darn bit cheaper than the Summit one and these days every penny counts...
I'm looking at this as a way to avoid having to mount stalks and work out the wiring (electrics is definitely not my forte). I had thought of the stalks made by AB, but they no longer offer them as supply of new units to convert are out of stock.
So, anybody out there going to use the Raptor?

This race style buttons on the steering wheel just look right in an Ultima!

My only issue with this setup is the battery. For such solution, I would put a DC-DC converter in the dashboard to have the right voltage and a 2 wires spring cable to power the device.

Completely defeats the object of this device.
may as well just use a bungeed multifunction wheel.

Not necessarily, a good design would allow both, the battery or a plug to come with GND and +Voltage. If I don't remove my steering wheel, I don't want to have to manage the battery during years. A battery which is always mounted might start to leak after 3-10 years, which will then ruin the device.

I don't know how the aftermarket multifunction wheels works, but if you want to have a robust system which lasts the lifetime of a road car, you need a slip ring to transfer the signals from the rotating shaft to the dashboard. In comparison the RF solution of summit is simpler and easier to install. Having a robust and simpler cable to power the unit with only two wires would be for my needs the best combination of both solutions.
