Hi Steve, Not too far about 10 miles or so.... It seems it was the coil that was causing the problem. Not impressed given its only 8/9 months old but its been replaced now and Its still under warrenty so thats at least one thing. I need to consider if its in a place that it gets too much heat or vibration but its mounted correctly and where other ultimas have them.... Hmmm....

It seems obvious to be now but the coil was spraking and it was giving a sprak from the king lead but it was giving less and less hjuice until it just couldnt get it through the distributor. a resistance test through the primary and secondary circuits against spec clearly showed it was goosed..... So its up and running now again, but My carry around spare list will include a coild a few plugs and a couple of spare leads!!!!
The irony is i replaced the entire ignition system last year because i was afraid something like this might happen.... Ha!

You may become a hero.

Went to LeMans but a few days before leaving my alternator failed. Ordered a replacement from the Factory but it was doubtful it would get to me in time so I dismantled the old one and found the fault. The new one turned up in time so I packed it anyway.

During the weekend another Ultima returned to camp with a failed alternator. Whilst a large contingent of the camp discussed options I routed out my new one and joined the discussion with the alternator behind my back. My suggestion of fitting a new alternator was met with much derision until I produced it.

I didn't need to buy any beer that evening.

also i had problems with alternator: I replaced it with an audi A6 3.0 tdi by replacing the pulley diameter to make it turn more slowly.
It, also, costs half the original ....smile
