Good morning guys from sunny So Cal. I am making my way through my new Ultima project and noticed that the factory has put a appox 4 inch hole in the side panel that extends from the backside of the radiator up to the air outlet on the hood. At first thought I would think you would want that area sealed from the back of the radiator to the outlet. My second thought was the factory didn't go to this trouble to save fiberglass there must be a reason. Any answers? Lee

Those holes are perfectly normal. I don't know the logic of them.

My car was registered in 2003 and has the holes. I can only imagine they are there either to give an air outlet if the exit grill were to get blocked with leaves or snow or the lower pressure air downstream of the radiator needs a larger flow area. Or maybe they use the low pressure air under the splitter/front clam to help extract the hot air but I'm not sure that would work as the area around the front wheels is usually high pressure. I would also be interested to know what the factory says.

Here is a picture of my car - the holes are in the front clam shell air exit duct from the radiator so the left hand side one can be seen right in the middle of the photo.

It is probably to allow the hot air to get out from wheel housing if in that area there is depression.

Also in Ferrari F40 hot air exit only from wheel housing! Only on F40 LM they changed the flow with went on the bonnet to make it pass over the roof.

My guess is that hole is for the charge cooler heat exchanger exhaust if you had the super charged engine. Ultima puts the heat exchanger on that side right below the lighten the front clam.

As stated my first car did not have these my new one does. this required an additional process in the manufacture of the hood, that didn't happen to save weight. Come on factory what gives. Lee
