I have a SBC with oil cooler , the factory supplied the parts, but after fitting the engine in it looks like there isn't enough room to take a filter off. Comments, is it possible?

or do I need to purchase a new part and relocate the filter.

There's not much room from your pictures. Easiest solution would be to cross reference your oil filter and get a shorter one. With so many choices for oil filters for SBC, you should be able to find one.

Thanks I'm going to try the AC Delco PF-454 or the Mobil one M1-111 they say it's 3.6 inches vs 4.0

What's that extra collar above the sandwich plate? I've got an oil cooler, i think there is a narrow collar because the filter is recessed a little, but that collar looks quite thick.

Install a out board filter. I use a Canton model.

That was part of the kit, maybe a Canton external filter is the way to go.

I have a similar set up, but my collar is thinner, having said that Ive not long fitted my oil cooler so Ive never changed the filter! I'll take a picture when I have a moment!

Mine spacer is 2" long and need to be removed to remove filter.
It's a truble but works.

After removing oil cooler tube:
  1. 1 unscrew filter
  2. 2 insert a 32 wrench and unbolt spacer
  3. 3 unbolting spacer: screw (insert) on filter the bolt of the spacer
(hard to explain in spaghetti English)

to the point I had to file the edge of the oil temp sensor slightly so it wouldn't foul! Also not mch margin for error when I drilled and tapped it either!
