Nice powerful engine but some questionable build quality with doors that open at speed door mirrors that look like they are mounted too high and the positioning of the exhausts in the rear grill is not nice at all.

Given that it's their test mule I'd forgive them the build quality and packaging.

As for the door. It's not unknown for ultimas to do that 'at speed' (I can see the top edge my window frame lifting when progressing..) f I would expect a session in a wind tunnel to reveal a big low-pressure zone that's sucking away at the door. If it hasn't been shut properly or the latch adjustment isn't spot on.....

Lottery win tonight would equal one of these paired with an Autobioincs PDK cloud9

PDK only good for Circa about 520lbs/ft at the moment. they are working on better torque handling.

How mjch would a creat engine cost though? Wonder if a built LS7 would be cheaper. HCI can probably get you close to those numbers....

Also they need to figure a way to flip that intake around! Got to be loosing some power there.

Errr...... It is an LS7!
Its been converted to DOHC using custom heads, chains to the exhaust cam from where the central cam would be, and internal gears in the headto the inlet cams..... Goes to show you what a 7 litre engine with proper volumetric efficiency can do!

All ultima doors open at speed. 160-170mph and you get 1inch gap at the top of the door.

I think Chris knows that. What he means is could you get close to similar power from a 'built' ls7 without mods like quad cams etc. A turbo would be a breeze :-)

Yes that's what I was getting at boosted! A LS7 with head, cam and intake manifold (as well as other bolt ons) can probably get to high 600bhp. If you take the engine out more (460 range which can be done on a LS7 block) and fit ITBs I bet you could smash 750bhp and still have a torquey motor.

Now a 460 with 4 valve heads and ITBs would be very interesting! smile

And a 427 with 4 valve heads and twin turbos would be even more interesting! Haha smile

I love NA engines but I suspect the cost of that DOHC engine would be similar to the 1020hp engine from AS.

Not the same high revs but way more power and torque.

I may change my LS7 cam and remap in the next year or two to take mine out to 650ish Hp. On the road I think that is plenty as I do like to be able to fully depress the loud pedal occasionally.

The price is 28,900 USD so a few grand cheaper than the 700hp American speed LS7, I am not sure if that price includes ECU and absolutely everything you need to just bolt it in.

Nice engineering; but straight from GM for circa $17K an LSX454R is 770BHP / 600 lbs/ft out of the crate at same peak rpm.
Not bad value for a n/a small block with a forged bottom and top end, six bolt mains and heads,
Throw a few pounds of boost and a "softer" custom cam at it and it would be an absolute peach of a motor.

I did 176mph at bruntingthorpe two weeks ago and didn't have any problems with my doors and never heard of this issue before.

For a car that with the right spec does 200mph I think any door opening would be more than a little disconcerting and highly dangerous!

My very first run at a Vmax (2007?) resulted in a door opening at 160......didn't expect that, maybe due to not being shut properly as it didn't happen on subsequent runs but the top of the door showed a gap as the low pressure over the door pulled at it at high speeds.

in effects, isaw that at high speed the top of the doors tend to open up: the gelcoat expands and sees the sky

but....American Speed 29.000usd and Create Engine also....
i don't understand: HP equal ,the choice seems easy and I add that ,perhaps, GM is more reliable.

or no?
