As the title says...if everybody goes over to Facebook then the benefits of this forum will be lost for ever.

I'm happy to be shown where I'm wrong but as I see it, and with very little knowledge of how to use Facebook, it seems impossible to follow a subject in the way a forum thread does and again impossible to search for a subject in the way you can with a forum.

I agree with you.

I like Facebook. I'm surprised I say that since I was a late-adopter and could never see myself "sharing" superficial bits of life with random "friends" but I've changed my mind and can see that for some things it works pretty well.

Most (all?) of the other car forums and aviation forums I follow have also suffered from Facebook. It's easy to use, easy to access, good for banter and is THE place to post photos of anything interesting you've eaten in the last 12hrs.

On the other hand it's not that great for creating a searchable database of knowledge which is a bit of a pain for folk trying to find the answers to questions that are likely to have been asked lots of times. Facebook is very much "of the moment" and that has advantages but has fairly obvious disadvantages. Things move on tho I guess.

I totally agree Steve. The number of posts on here per week has fallen dramatically, while those on Facebook has risen. Are those in the Facebook Ultima Group aware of the Pistonheads forum? It is not only the Ultima forum that is suffering, posts to the Classic Mini Pistonheads forum are now almost non existent!

Facebook is all that is wrong with the internet.
I hate "social networking" its full of haters and trolls.

I tried LinkedIn for a while but it is full of st.
People I don't know leaving positive comments about my business (presumably in the hope that I'd reciprocate).
I suppose it could be worse and have negatives posted.

The massive problem with Facebook is that its not very easy to search for threads for information. This place is a massive repository of information.
Most of the FB items are indeed just random chat and questions, but its far easier to post a picture reply or receive relevant notifications from groups so I see the benefit too.

It may be that between FB and the factorys new Manual /Wiki that indeed the PH forum may remain quiet frown
Maybe we should have a proper Owners community Wiki?

I agree.

I’m only going on Facebook to follow others posts, I don’t really have much to post myself, I find this forum much easier to read and discuss.

Not sure what the solution is.

It would be very sad if this forum dies out. I have no intention of joining the worlds largest surveillance organisation - FaceBook....

Agree with all of the above. I don't, nor will I ever use FB - point of principle now.

I had to get my wife to ask permission to join the group as I've just put my canam up for sale on the PH classifieds and wanted to let everyone know (who was on here but now seems to be 'over there')

Well I have to agree with all that is said on here. The PH page has been around for years and years and has been a mine of information which made me decide to go down the Ultima owners route. Even after checking the page on a daily basis, I have to say that it has been getting quiter and quieter as time goes by.

As administrator of the FB Ultima owners page, I do inform non Ultima owners of the existance of this PH forum. In the large majority of cases I do not approve membership and potential members have some simple questions to answer to help the sceening. I fully agree that FB is really for quick responses, but remains totally impossible to do a search on a topic or subject.

I feel that we need to keep this PH forum alive. Perhaps the FB page will slow as time goes by too, when the craze dies out. Also, it will be nice to see how the Factory's fits in to the overall picture.

oh dear ... am i being missed haha? .

i used to post every day but now only pop over now and then.

The problem we have is most discussions have already happened and as the Ultima GTR is the same car it has been for the last 19 years, there isnt alot to talk about.

ok i know the factory re invented it and called it the EVO but its still pretty much the same car just with a few upgrades.

As time goes by the discussions will be less and less on how to build it or modify it, and as members are in the minority compared to other marques the chat will be limited by the run we have done, or meetings/shows attended.

its only you guys who can keep the forums going. FB imo isnt the place to do it, however i do understand why people have wanted to go that route of FB, due to the restrictions in advertising here( i still dont understand why we cant post a for sale advert in classifieds and mention on the forums? . its free anyway!!!) and to post a picture on fb it takes 5 seconds, here you have to reduce the file size etc etc with a 3rd party program like tiny pics and thats a pain if you have multiple photos.

maybe the mods can see the reduction in posts in every forum? is it just here? is it since the vocal ones like me have left? i have a mass of info on Ultimas as tried most things and in teh future would like to build an electric one!!! dont ask

hope everyone well

I said when i rejoined PH to get some info on Ultimas i should join the 21st century and sign back up to fb (left a long time ago). I appreciate that Ultima owners will be small in numbers and as said above, i guess most of the info has been discussed at some point.

I am a member of a few other car forums and they seem to be standing the test of time, even the vx220 forum which are relatively low in numbers.

Personally i am surprised as it seems to be the younger generation that dote on fb, i cant imagine many youngsters own Ultimas so would think after the death of the Ultima forum (led to believe there was one) the more mature gent would be more inclined to keep connected here.

Fb really hasnt got anything to offer me anymore, i have no need for likes or dislikes and not going to sign up just to peruse Ultima stuff, i still think i will be better here asking questions, even if there is a wait for a response.

without going into a great deal of detail, when I was briefed yearly on security by folks who take that subject really serious they make a very substantial argument for not being present on social media. I am now retired from that job, but the warning also applied to folks with a high net worth or the outward perception of such. regardless of your financial situation to the non motorhead public, ownership of an Ultima puts you in that category lee

Not trying to Highjack or kick a lad when they are down. I have an option, A web site I started in the States initially to be a registry for Ultima owners.
It is a lot of work to even maintain it. But If you want a place to post searchable info Ultimaclubusa.com
I'm a one man operation, so be patient.

If the moderators feel this is not appropriate for this forum please remove.

i have saw....frown
I can only thank this forum and its members. here in Italy there is nothing that speaks of ultima.

this year I am 50 years old and I resisted FB until last year: then I was forced to register to see photos and last info (congratulations and thanks to Daniel).

this is also a another way of not feeling alone here in Italy.

I believe that the two worlds will coexist because they are complementary: one lacks something and the other also.

in any case, FB is much easier and more immediate.

PH has many limitations and today in 2018 it's not good.

I hope, however, that you are always here too!

do not give up please!!!!

Long live PH! However it does need to compete with FB. For all those concerned about social media security, investigate getting a VPN, use proxychains & TOR browser if really concerned, DNS leaks and how to prevent it, use a browser such as DuckDuckgo (checkit out), read the FB security settings options (no one does combined with liking everything on the planet resulting in constant junk being received), use a decent password with multi-factor authentication, use FB only for the private Ultima page and nothing else, so no friends, just communicate within the private group, get an adblock, turn off auto video run, clear your browser history daily, set up an online avatar, use on your home computer and not at work, and not on an app on a mobile device, don't use on public wifi or any wifi, don't use Microsoft explorer browser....I could go on but will stop there smile Ult-Jim.

I hate FB with a passion. Yes I do have a presence but its little more than a name and a contact point for anybody searching for me. Other than that I try and use it as little as possible.

There are more than enough open source forums out there that would give much more flexibility and functionality (like a search that works..) than PH or FB. I for one would be happy to contribute time and some money to the setup of a useful website/forum that contains content that is owned by the community...

I think the Ultima FB page was created to 'hide' from the Factory as some wanted information which was controversial or to post opinions that were slightly caustic.

I am a member but it must be almost a year since I looked at it.

I hate FB with a passion.

This forum has been a great library of valuable information. But I too have noticed how quiet it has become.
You would think that with the success of the Evo there would be a growing number of users on here!

I'm not an owner but I've got the bug - partly thanks to reading stuff here. Don't like and don't use FB, and as a Noble owner I've seen the way the PH Noble forum has withered to almost nothing. If/when I do take the Ultima plunge, this forum is where I'd rather post the daft questions and it's much more searchable.

Btw, the factory are quoting 3+ years wait for a built Evo. They really need to up their capacity to meet demand. Sorry if that's already been discussed on FB - I wouldn't know. wink

Ult Jim just a note: What the security folks were speaking of wasn't computer security although that is important too. What they where saying is that F.B. and other similar sites allow those with ill intentions to get a good picture of who, what, and where you are. Also a feeling for what you might be worth. lee

One idea might be to start a thread on here and then link to FB or other sites. This way traffic is still directed to pistonheads but it hits a wider audience. Just a thought.
