Huge Ultima fan and hopefully owner in the not so distant future here. Can anyone explain why there is literally nothing online either from the traditional motoring media or the youtube crowd regarding the RS?

My guess is that the Factory won't like "lending" a vehicle for journos to bomb around with, getting into trouble and jumping into hedges, if not more serious and dangerous situations. They can seriously bite if you are not used to driving one.

Which is why you don't get to test drive one when buying a kit.

That would make sense if we are talking about the youtube kids, but I would hazard a guess that guys like Chris Harris, Dickie Meaden, Sam Hancock, Randy Pobst etc have far superior car control than 90% of Ultima customers.

With the waiting list times that Ultima enjoy they don’t currently need to market the car. There was a brief article by Evo magazine:
https://www.evo.co.uk/news/22753/1200bhp-ultima-rs...
Interestingly they quote a 1000kg of downforce presumably at maximum speed with the aero package the car has - including the rear wing so it’s definitely not just for show.

Last month's Evo magazine took an Ultima to the IOM, albeit a 10-15 year old example? Barker (journo) did like it.

I don't recall an Ultima ever being properly independently tested, figured and put round a circuit by a credible mag/reviewer.

Old article reprinted due to lack of drives because of lockdown.

Probably a few reasons.
Motoring journos are a strange bunch. They mourn analogue vehicles yet berate those that don’t have all the mod cons.
There isn’t the mainstream interest, Ultima is very niche, more people want to read about Ferrari, Lamborghini or Porsche.
Ultima don’t need to at the moment.
Long may the last continue.

Why does a lack of reviews matter? Speak to the owners. Many have Ultimas as well as regular supercars.

Couldn't disagree more.

Evo magazine (amongst others) now review a whole host of resto-mods and continuation cars, most of which have little to no mod cons.

And reviews do matter - they give an objective viewpoint (not owner biased), where the reviewer (e.g. Chris Harris, Richard Meaden) is generally exceptional well qualified to comment on driving dynamics and handling.

it's such a shame I think, I was hoping the RS was going to be the car that everyone would know about but the factrory is too stubborn. if evo/top gear/autocar etc did some youtube videos then i'm sure the car would perform well and it'd gather so much attention

I don’t really care if you disagree and I don’t know why you even stick yourself nose in when you have zero intention of ever owning an Ultima. But that’s what you do Often on PH isn’t it :roll eyes:

Yes some journos are obviously Talented, objective though?

What would they benchmark an Ultima against? Modern supercars with all their clever tech? No. Caterham? No. Track only cars? No.
It’s of little value to both sides at this point.

Reviews about such a niche car do not matter except to those that do not own (or intend to own) and prefer to talk. Ultima don't really need press reviews, the figures say enough, and personally I'm glad that the factory don't feel the need to pander to media. Remember what Top Gear did to the Stratos replica? I didn't understand why they didn't want to get media cover at first but I certainly do now, and applaud their integrity on this and other sites.
When you read or hear some of the reports of a car the reviewer likes or dislikes, it seems to be either the best thing since sliced bread or a disaster, media loves absolutes especially if controversial.

If I intended to purchase a performance car, and the Ultima was in the running, why wouldn't I be interested in a (positive) review?

As I've stated previously, specialist magazines now review all manner of kit cars, continuation cars and resto-mods, so to suggest an Ultima is unique in that it shouldn't or can't be reviewed is utterly nonsensical. And the performance figures don't say anything about how the car drives or how it objectively compares to its peers.

I really like the Ultima RS, and magazines such as Evo like the Ultima, having previewed the RS over several pages not long ago, and having re-printed the Ultima to IOM article.

Hopefully the factory do listen and release the Ultima RS for some credibility boosting independent tests.

They won't why should they, it will give them nothing just cost. You seem to miss the point of not needing to, order book is full, owners are happy, genuine interest is on the up. Au revoir.

because it's just good for the brand and it's nice for the owners. they are great cars and they deserve it imo.

Why is it nice for the owners? They all seem to be happy knowing what they’ve got and don’t need a press article to boost their esteem?

That’s not supposed to be 4rsey, I just genuinely don’t see what benefit their is to either party.

Car mags gave many positive reviews of cars/brands that no longer exist. They have many positive reviews of car brands that are in trouble.

I guess we’re just different - I don’t care about reviews or what others think smile
